He could rock himself back to sleep, so the sleep we got with the hammock was great!

The only concern I had about the instillation process was the length of chain.

The Hushamok was simple to install. It comes with a thick stainless screw for mounting into the ceiling, two clips, and about 2 feet worth of chain. If you do not have any experience with mounting things from the ceiling please get some help from someone that knows what they are doing. The chain should easily support an adult male body weight so this is a good way to test the strength before attaching the Hushamok. The only concern I had about the instillation process was the length of chain. Like I said before the chain length is about two feet which is far too short to suspend from the ceiling. A few dollars worth of high quality chain at a home store can fix this problem. Just know ahead of time how much chain you need and get chain with a strength rating of a few hundred pounds - don't buy flimsy decorative chain.

Assembly was easy, putting it up really only took 2-3 minutes after getting the screw mounted to the ceiling. So, besides a run to the store for supplies my guess is that someone reasonably handy could put this up in under 15min. When we installed our we put it about 2 feet out from the wall so that we could have a little swinging action, if I did it again i would mount if further from the wall, about 3 feet. I know they sell a mobile stand for this product so that could be an option for anyone willing to by one of those.

Overall it is a nice little baby product. Easy to use and simple to install. The cloth and tension bow seem strong and built to last. My only complaint is that this hammock was not designed for babies that like to move a lot or scoot. Once a baby starts to move the body weight moves. This causes the hammock to tilt at some harsh angles. It is not uncommon for our baby to slide head first into the corner of the hammock and be stuck.

I read the previous review and although he had some legitimate concerns about the ceiling mount install, I thought I would give this hammock a nod for being fantastic with what it's supposed to do, put and keep a newborn baby asleep. My baby was sleeping six hours straight after the first week, when she would wake up it would gently start rocking her back to sleep without me having to even get up. To address another concern written about, if you position the baby with their feet close to the bottom as recommended you will not have to worry about the baby moving up and getting his/her head stuck in a corner since the angle of the hammock makes it nearly impossible. This hammock is made for newborns and small babies, just like a regular bassinet or other infant sleeper your baby will outgrow it by about three months, but in my opinion the sleep I got and comfort my baby got was so worth the money!

I purchased the organic baby hammock and the okoa stand for our newborn daughter. The company states that the hammock is usable until the baby is able to roll over or reaches at maximum of 22 pounds. Our daughter, born on December 8, 2013 began using this hammock when she was around 2-2.5 weeks old. We noticed that after about 4 hours of her sleeping in the hammock, her body would be crunched up toward the bottom of the hammock. We then noticed, on two separate occasions that one of her feet were caught between the buttons on the bottom. The last time she was in the hammock (about 2 months of age and well within the restrictions set forth by Hushamok), we found her with her butt flush against the bottom of the hammock and her legs over top. Given she could have easily fallen out, we discontinued use immediately and contacted the company. (we do not CIO and she sleeps right next to our bed and we tend to her the moment she makes a peep so it's not like she was left wailing around in the hammock)

I sent photos of the hammock and how it was constructed thinking perhaps we did something wrong when putting it together. The owner of the company said it looked fine and that our child had outgrown the hammock. When I advised her of the issues and the age of my daughter, she accused me of lying about our daughters age. I then offered to send her documentation of our daughter's birthday and requested she take back the hammock given it was dangerous. She refused to take back the hammock and told me to sell it on Craigslist.

We purchased the ceiling-mounted Hushamok hammock for our first child, and are about to use it for our second child as well. I read the other reviews posted here and am unsure why some people are uncomfortable leaving their child alone in this hammock. When used according to the manufacturer's instructions, it is safe to use. Those instructions included mounting the hardware into a stud so that it was secure and putting the child towards the bottom of the hammock, so that it tips up. Yes, that did mean our son's legs got scrunched up at the bottom of the hammock, but they were already scrunched from being swaddled and he slept fine like that. Our son also had reflux, and having his head up was a lifesaver! He could rock himself back to sleep, so the sleep we got with the hammock was great! We swaddled him in the hammock. So long as he was swaddled tightly/correctly, we had no issues with the blankets riding up around his face. Once your baby becomes able to roll over, do not use this product. Our son outgrew it before he could roll over - about 3 months old. My only complaints about using this product are that it took a few days to get my son used to going from a bed that rocked to a stationary crib, and that the "mattress" is hand wash only. Other than that, we are very pleased with the Hushamok hammock!
