Product Description

The Husky Brute is loaded with features. With the Smart Stop technology, it uses a planetary gear timing system which shuts down the power to the motor before the nut reaches the hard stop point, eliminating any hard mechanical stop or stress on the jack. Reduces current draw and adds longevity to the system. It also features a wireless remote giving you the convenience of operating your jack from up to 40 feet away to assist in leveling. Less Friction - The Brute is the only power jack in its price range that has a ball screw, which reduces friction compared to the ACME screw used on some other brands. The ball bearings roll through the threads on the Brute's shaft and nut. Allows the motor to work less, draw less amperage, create less heat, reduce noise and increase motor and jack life.

The Brute is powerful, with a capacity of up to 4,500 pounds. It's fast, with a travel speed of 10 inches in as little as 38 seconds. It does the job, with an 18 inch full stroke and 6 inch drop down leg. It's tough, with hardened steel gears. It's secure, with weather protected switches and a water resistant enclosure. It's versatile, fitting all 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch A-Frame couplers currently using a 2-1/4 inch outer diameter jack. It's economical, with a low 25 Ampere draw at rated load. And it's convenient, with three LED work lights, a built-in connector storage bracket not found on any other power jack, and a 30 Ampere inline circuit breaker fuse and inline fuse holder. The Husky Brute is the new standard in electric tongue jacks. Features include control On/Off, Up/Down. FCC, IC approved. Assist in hitching/unhitching. Makes leveling more convenient when leveling front/rear. Control the jack from inside while leveling refrigerator.

From the Manufacturer

Husky 87641 Brute Electric Jack with Wireless Remote

We call our HB4500 power jack the Brute for good reason. It has the brute strength to lift your trailer tongue safely and with a lot less effort, and the brute toughness to do it time after time, year after year.

The Brute features a wireless remote control, which allows you to control the operation of the jack, while monitoring the front-to-back leveling of the trailer, from up to 40 feet away. In addition, Brute features weather-protected switches and a convenient Connector Storage Bracket to store and protect the trailer’s cord end from the elements. A 6-inch adjustable drop down leg provides extended adjustment for a variety of terrains. The Brute also features a full 2-1/4 inch main tube, which is designed to fit most A-frame couplers. The Brute’s motor is powerful and efficient, providing a full 4,500 pounds of continuous lifting capacity, which is an excellent benefit when setting up weight distribution hitches. In addition, Brute’s moderate gear reduction produces a fast travel speed of 10 inches in as little as is 38 seconds, with a full range of 18 inches.

Lift efficiency is also aided by the Brute’s ball screw design, which reduces friction with ball bearings that roll through the threads on the Brute’s shaft and nut, which means the motor works less, draws less amperage, creates less heat and produces less noise. The ball screw design greatly increases motor and jack life.

Brute’s SmartStop technology senses the limits of the jack’s range and shuts down the motor without the hard mechanical stop common with other units. Plus, a 3-Sided LED Light System illuminates the entire working area, including the hitch head and weight distribution brackets on the A-frame.

Features & Benefits

Low Friction Ball Screw

Brute was the first jack in its class to offer a ball screw for easy rolling friction compared to the sliding friction of standard power jacks. Rolling friction means the motor works less, draws less amperage, creates less heat, reduces noise and increases motor and jack life.

Storage Bracket

Built-in connector storage bracket and protects trailer’s cord end from weather.

Weather-Protected Switches

Operate lights and jack independently and water resistant cover.

3-Sided LED Light System

Illuminates entire working area with side lights directed towards WD brackets.

Husky Brute Smart Stop Technology

Wireless Remote Control

Brute Jacks Wireless remote control lets you operate the jack from inside while leveling your RV. Remote makes leveling more convenient. Also assists in hitching/unhitching.

This jack is very nice. It installed in about 15 minutes on our 26' Keystone Outback camper. It's a bit slower than I initially thought it would be, but not having to manually crank the jack on a hot, humid summer night is worth the wait. The LED work lights are a nice addition, although they are a bit dim. The manual crank option means you're not going to be stranded due to a dead battery.

Speaking of dead batteries...The electrical design of the wireless receiver is horrible. I gave this jack a rating of 4 stars because the electronics draw a lot of current (25mA) all of the time. The instructions advise disconnecting the power if you are not going to use the jack for more than a few days but they do not include any switch for this purpose. It would have been easy for the design to use the LED light ON/OFF switch to also power ON/OFF the wireless receiver. This would prevent the electronics current draw when not in use. Plus having a built in electronics ON/OFF with the LED light indicator would prevent inadvertent jack operation when cruising down the highway.

As a side note, the UP/DOWN switches worked backwards from how I thought they should work. In my opinion, DOWN means crank the jack down. But in Husky's convention, DOWN means the trailer tongue goes down.

Amazon's price with free shipping could not be beat by any RV store or website. The jack was easy to install and wiring was a snap. The remote feature is nice and worth the extra $$ (IMHO). The wife says,"I don't see the benefit of standing right next to the jack, using the remote, when you can just use the switch on the jack". Then she saw me level the trailer standing around the corner from the jack while I watched the bubble on the side of the trailer. No going back and forth from bubble to jack, or getting her to come watch the bubble while I work the jack. She finally saw the light and loved it. One caution - make sure the buttons on the remote are covered with the built in slide cover when you put the remote in your pocket. Otherwise, you could inadvertently activate the jack when squatting or leaning against something. Happened to me!! I thought the jack was going nuts on it's own until I figured that one out.

I received the Husky Electric Jack sooner than promised, just got it installed the other day. Installation went smooth, though I do suggest installing some type of disconnect switch between the unit and your battery (there is a constant small draw required for remote control use). I purchased a 30 amp rated weatherproof toggle switch and installed it (and the circuit breaker supplied with the Jack) in the top of my battery box.

I had to remove the "Convenient Trailer Plug Holder" because there wasn't room between the jack and my propane tanks - an easy task, just a couple of screws.

It's still early so I haven't used it in the field, but I've run it up & down a few times and it seems to work just fine. I will update if my opinion changes.

Hands down best designed and strongest jack yet. The remotes come in really handy and the unit does not sound like it is shredding metal or working hard. Love it.

This item is heavy. It is well constructed, with no chintzy plastic pieces and well suited for big travel trailers. I chose this model because it also has a remote feature as well as I believe in making sure that it will handle the job. Many would say it's over kill for my 7000Lb(loaded) travel trailer, The tongue weight is about 800Lb. This beauty can handle 4500Lb. Installation was a snap, it fit like a well crafted puzzle piece and I was able to complete the job, including removal of the old jack inside of 30Mins using minimal tools. I had to remove the attached bracket that holds the 7-way connector as it got in the way of my gas tank cover. I have a different connector anyway and it wouldn't have fit. Works like a charm.

I bought it 4 months ago, had a chance to use it 20 times, or more.

I replaced the manual jack that came with my 24ft toyhauler - I can't believe I waited so long. It installed very easy, a perfect fit over the existing holes - I just had to remove the bracket that was designed to store the trailer main connector cable. This bracket interferred with housing of my LP tanks. It would be better if this bracked was mounted on the side, but I can live without it.
I connected the jack's power just past the "Kill" switch, so it's easy to disable it and ensure the wireless remote circuit will not drain the battery if stored for a long time.

The jack works perfectly fine, very strong and the power consumption seems OK.

My notes / observations:

1. As someone has already pointed out, the reverse logic with UP / Down switch position is stupid (flip up to move the jack down, flip down to move the jack up). I already got used to it, but whenever I ask someone else to use it, they will ALWAYS flip it down hoping to extend the jack. I think that Husky engineers have their own idea how things work and wanted us to think that when flipping down, the trailer hitch will go down (the jack goes up then). Anyway, enough of that silly thing.
Buttons on Remote work with the same logic - arrow up will move the trailer hitch up, the jack will extend down. This remote is a great addition for the front - back leveling, even from the inside of the trailer.

2. On my very first use, the pin used on the adjustable drop down leg bent instantly when raised the trailer. It still works, but I'm not sure if I can ever pull it out. It works as is and hopefully I will never have to touch it, but that is a warning sign about the quality of materials. That pin wasn't made to hold up to the 4500 lbs as specified.

Overall, I think it's avery good buy for the money. I'm just hoping it will last long enough to pay itself off.

BJ
