Product Description

The Husky Brute 4,500lb Power Jack is loaded with features, including an 18-inch full stroke with 6-inch drop down leg, and a fast travel speed of 10 inches in as little as 38 seconds. Hardened steel gears, weather protected switches, and a water resistant enclosure make this jack super durable and helps ensure a long life. The Husky Brute Power Jack fits all A-frame couplers. It's also economical, with a low 25A draw at rated load. Additional features include three LED work lights, a built-in connector storage bracket that's not found on any other power jack, and a 30A fuse and in-line fuse holder.

From the Manufacturer

Husky 87247 Brute Electric Jack

We call our HB4500 power jack the Brute for good reasons. It has the brute strength to lift your trailer tongue safely and with much less effort, and the brute toughness to do it time after time, year after year.

A 6-inch adjustable drop down leg provides extended adjustment for a variety of terrains. The Brute also features a full 2-1/4-inch main tube, which is designed to fit most A-frame couplers. The Brute’s motor is powerful and efficient, providing a full 4,500 pounds of continuous lifting capacity, which is an excellent benefit when setting up weight distribution hitches. In addition, Brute’s moderate gear reduction produces a fast travel speed of 10 inches in as little as is 38 seconds, with a full range of 18 inches.

Lift efficiency is also aided by the Brute’s ball screw design, which reduces friction with ball bearings that roll through the threads on the Brute’s shaft and nut, which means the motor works less, draws less amperage, creates less heat and produces less noise. The ball screw design greatly increases motor and jack life.

Brute’s SmartStop technology senses the limits of the jack’s range and shuts down the motor without the hard mechanical stop common with other units. Plus, a 3-Sided LED Light System illuminates the entire working area, including the hitch head and weight distribution brackets on the A-frame.

Husky Brute Jack With Remote Features

Storage Bracket

Built-in connector storage bracket. Protects trailer’s cord end from weather.

3-Sided LED Light System

Illuminates entire working area with side lights directed towards WD brackets

Weather-Protected Switches

Operate lights and jack independently.

Rolling Friction

Brute was the first jack in its class to offer a ball screw for easy rolling friction, compared to the sliding friction of standard power jacks. Rolling friction means the motor works less, draws less amperage, creates less heat, reduces noise and increases motor and jack life.

Initially impressed but jack failed after three trips and seven months. Jack was never exposed to weather and is only lifting 300 lbs of tongue weight. Seems to be the switch as power gets to it but not out.

All would be fine if Husky honored their one-year warranty but they do not respond to fax, email, or phone. Yes their phone is answered by a machine. Their listed "authorized" dealers do not service the jack.

I may be in luck as I may have found a replacement switch to try. Hopefully that $20.00 won't be good money after bad.

Update: Found out Husky Tow is one of many names used by Coast Distribution System, Inc., Morgan Hill, CA. I have talked to their representatives but so far they will not repair, replace, or refund the jack.

Some of their other names: Arcon Electrical, DTS, Faulkner Furniture, Duraflex, Dock-Rite, Mac Boating. Most list the same Wilsonville, OR, address.

Edit: I wrote the CEO of Coast and had a new jack a week later. This is quiet, smooth, and strong jack, so I've revised my rating

This jack is very powerful. The Atwood jack that this replaced bogged down and took forever to lift my trailer when it was loaded. This thing is a beast and doesn't even sound like it has any load at all on it. The only downside is the weak lights. My Atwood light had a bright light that lit my combination lock on the trailer tongue but the three lights barely glow and don't light anything.

I installed this unit tonight. It took about an hour and required very little work. The hour included securing the tongue with jack stands and floor jacks for stability. This unit seems very heavy duty and simple to operate. I have read good and BAD reviews on almost every brand of electric tongue jack. I spoke with my local dealer and decided to give Husky a try. I am certain I voided my warranty with the installation because I had cut the back side of the base plate to fit against the battery tray but it shouldn't weaken the plate. The motor IS a little slow but flipping a lever verses cranking...I can wait a minute longer. I'll update my review after our first trip.

Instructions advise not to install without a bottom plate (which is not included). If it is required, it should be included. Also, bolts are not included; so if your bolts are not reusable you will have to purchase them. I feel all of the items used to install this jack should be part of the package.

I installed the Husky Brute 4500# jack on my 6000# GVW trailer. The installation was fairly easy though you will need some additional parts to fully install the jack. The kit does not include a way to install the circuit breaker or make the connection to the battery. Easily solved by buying a 10 gauge ring terminal and some waterproof 10 gauge butt splices: Nor does the kit include flat washes which the instructions recommend. It took me about an hour to do the install including hooking up the trailer to my truck and to do the wiring.

The jack is loud. Not terribly loud, but loud enough my wife commented on it when I demonstrated it. The kit includes the tool to unlock the brake and to jack it up and down by hand. The hand override is actually easier than my old jack so if i get stuck with a dead battery bank I will happily jack it up and down. The jack is much faster than cranking by hand and it has excellent breaking power. The jack is over-sized for my trailer, but hopefully that will help preserve the jack and not tax it too much when in use. It will also help when breaking the connection from trailer to truck.

The last thing I should mention is the cable holder on the back. The holder provides a handy place to store the end of your trailer plug. My LP tank is right behind my jack and the jack wouldn't fit with the cable storage thing in place. I noticed the screws on it and I simply undid them and the cable management part slid right off. It is sealed underneath so it is obviously made to be removable. I didn't know that prior to buying and had I not been willing t try and take the thing off I would probably have had to send it back.

Overall I am happy with the jack. I'll field test it this weekend and see if it performs out in the wilderness. but from playing with it in the driveway I have no doubts it will.

This is a must have if you have a heavy trailer, or a weight distribution hitch that requires you to lift the back of your vehicle up to hitch. This one will do the job. It is very quiet. Seller shipped and I recieved quickly.

I had one of these jacks on a travel trailer and I really liked it. I replaced the jack on my present trailer with one of these jacks and it works really well.
