For the most part, I agree with the first reviewer. I too live in the dc/metro region (Martinsburg, WV) and was buried in our recent snow storm. I picked this up at the freight terminal on Teusday, 2/9/2010, just as the flurries for our second storm were starting to fall. (I bought from Amazon so they would have delivered but liftgate service wasn't available until Friday)Upon arrival at home, it took a few moments to assemble in the freezing cold. In no time I was clearing away some of the 30" plus drifts that had been hardened and packed by the sunny days following the storm of 2/5/2010. It had no trouble at all. I am particularly impressed with it's performance in gravel. Although it picked up and propelled a bit of gravel, it never once stopped or got jammed. I still have all the extra shear pins. I suspect it is because I have large sized pieces of gravel that would not be able to become "jammed" in the auger. But I was really surprised that the impeller was not damaged (I don't know what it's made of but it is tough). Regarding picking up the gravel, in the snow throwers defense I must say that a lot of that gravel was suspended in the snow from when my wife and I had manually shoveled before this purchase. I have a minor complaint about the skid pads. I have a HUGE concrete patio behind my house (more than 1800 square feet) and I have a large gravel parking area in front of my garage (about 40'x40'). Well, after clearing a lot of snow in the concrete area then switching to the gravel area, I found it difficult, especially single-handedly, to adjust the height given the skid pads must be adjusted by loosening/tightening 2 sets of 1/2" nuts rather than a control lever of some sort mounted near the operators position. This, of course, would drive up the cost of the machine so this is just a minor complaint. As the previous reviewer said, this thing is heavy. It is a tricky to manoeuver in a tight area. The wheels do not turn independently so I found it difficult to turn in a short radius. Like Christopher said, use the reverse gear as much as you can, you will get tired fast if you don't. (I also agree that the reverse is too slow) The electric start works great! I love it. The engine is a beast. You will pass everything but a gas station with this thing. So have plenty of gas if your clearing large areas with lots of snow. One thing I noticed. In pictures of the unit, there is a spring attached between the snow chute hood and chute rotater head. This spring is neither listed in the manual as an included part nor was it included with the snow thrower. One final note about the speed/gear selector. It is not difficult to change speeds/gears. But after a long time going back and forth with the large amount of snow we had, it became cumbersome to push in the gear stick in order to adjust it to the desired position then release it, making sure it engages. It is not difficult, just cumbersome to me (thus minus one star in my review). This machine appears to be well made. I am very happy with it although after this winter it will be overkill for my geographical area. As far as my comments and opinions go, this is my first snow thrower and I have never even used a snow thrower prior to this one. It's ease of setup and use is top notch. I highly recommend this snow thrower.

I ordered this bad boy two days before the record-breaking snowstorm the DC area received February 6th, 2010. Assembly was a breeze; Just required attaching a few cables and the upper control assembly. The blower was very well packed. It was delivered on a pallet and the box has a wooden frame inside it. It took longer to get the box and internal frame apart than it did to assemble the unit. This thing is a monster. It effortlessly handled the 27 inches of snow we received. I cleared seven driveways and about a mile of sidewalk with no problems. This blower can even tear through the big, heavy blocks of snow the snowplows deposit at the end of the driveway. A few things you should know when considering this model: 1. This unit is HEAVY. It will wear you out in tight situations where you have to manhandle it a bit. The reverse gear was a tad slow for my liking, but be patient and use it anyway. Pulling it backwards yourself will leave you exhausted. 2. The 414cc engine uses a lot of fuel. I went through four gallons of gas in as many hours. Have some extra gas on hand if you intend to be using it for an extended period. 3. It's huge! While it worked out great for this giant snowstorm, in general I could have gotten by just fine with a smaller model. This is probably best suited for someone living somewhere like New England where 12"+ snowfall is more common. 4. The electric start is really electric. You have to plug it into an extension cord to start it. That being said, I had no problem pull starting it when away from the house. To sum it up... I love this blower. Very well put together and easy to operate.

I am SOOOOOO impressed with this machine! (Even though I am not the one running it. lol) I live in NE Nebraska and we have been getting dumped on with HUGE amts of snow here, I'm thinking most of which has landed in my driveway and yard!! I have had up to 7 foot drifts surrounding my house and needed tractors to come in and open up so I can get in an out of my drive. I looked everywhere for a snowblower, Ne stores all sold out...imagine THAT! I purchased this Husqvarna 1827SB 27-Inch 414cc OHV Gas Powered Two-Stage Snow Thrower With Variable Speed, Remote Chute Rotation & Electric Start #9619300-47 on Jan 9th thru Amazon, recieved it very quickly and effeciently, took it out of the crate, the boys put a few things together(no big deal there EASY!) put some gas in it and away they went! 2weeks after purchasing this, we got hit w/ another major snow storm and so much for any clearing that was done, I was snowed in and totally buried again. My fiancee pulled out the beast and WOW!! Totally awesome job, ate right thru high snow banks, old snow banks that had gotten hard...the whole works! Was alotta hard work and took a couple hours but what an amazing machine! I would totally reccommend this snowblower if you have lottsa snow...high drifts, heavy snow..it seems to handle anything! Starts right up and runs well, Will throw snow amazingly far also,Got a good 2 hours of useage,of hard core work and only needed to stop once to add gas. We've used it in the dark as it has a night light on it...GREAT!! Handles really well.I can't say enough good things about this machine.Have not needed to bring a farmer in with his tractor since I bought this. AWESOME machine!!!
