We had a 500 year storm where we lost power for a week and had tree limbs all over the place. One tree in particular dumped two big limbs on a neighbor's fence; so it was my first big project. The 460 Rancher did a super job and cut thought everything--not exactly like a hot knife through butter, but at a consistent speed. In one binding (my bad), the chain and bar were undamaged. It's well-made and very well designed.

They suggest reversing the bar with every use and so getting the bar on and off has to be easy, and it is. Two bolts hold the bar and chain assembly, and a worm screw tightens up the chain; so it's easy to adjust and flip the bar over. The starting sequence looks to be somewhat long and convoluted but after a few times it makes sense, and the machine starts right up. A pressure release button is a big help. Like all chain saws, you need to keep an eye on a new chain because they can stretch fairly quickly. Because of the easy adjustment screw, it is simple to make such adjustments.

On my old chain saw, bar oil spilled over everything, but on the Rancher, it has some kind of oil regulator that keeps the oil where it belongs. The 20" bar and the machine are not too heavy, but your arms will get a workout. It's the perfect compromise between a big professional level chain saw and one for home use.

I purchased this saw when my Husky 55 died after 17+ years. My old saw developed an air leak into the intake which cause it to run too lean and it overheated destroying the piston and cylinder. I had my old 24" bar and new chain installed and it has the power to handle it well. I noticed that it cuts faster than my old 55 with the same bar. I use my saw for getting firewood for the winter and have cut 30"+ trees without a problem. Please be sure to read the instruction manual. I says to be sure the chain break is off before removing the clutch cover. If you don't you will have to take it a dealer to have it put back on. Another word of caution: these new saws require premium gas, 91 octane or higher or they may overheat. Also, using gas with more than 10% ethanol well cause them to run too lean and over heat and burn up the pistons. You must also use high performance 2 stroke oil (the stuff you use in your outboard will not cut it. These engines run at higher temps than the old saws (and outboard motors), so you need a 2 stroke oil formulated for this. Use of Stihl or Husky XP oil is highly recommended by professional saw shops. I do recommend this saw to anyone who needs a good all around saw.

Recently purchased this saw from Amazon. I'm not young and have owned several chainsaws before. This saw starts easily and runs well out of the box. It doesn't so far leak oil. Seems to cut well. However as one prior reviewer noted it has a major gotcha that really should prevent it from being sold. If when replacing the chain, the brake is not off or if it trips during disassembly, you are in for a LOAD of wasted time trying to reset this thing. (If you even can) Some guy even posted to YouTube about the problem. (...) This is a serious issue that prevents an otherwise good saw from being highly recommended. One other trap that I happened to fall into was assuming that the white plastic washers installed on the bar bolts were some kind of vibration inhibitors. So I installed the bar on top of these! Well, this prevents the brake lever from attaching correctly and leads to the brake firing = disabled NEW saw. Be sure and throw away these white washers!

Got this saw to replace my Stihl ms 390. The 460 Rancher is the best Husqy to buy for a serious, experienced, but non-pro user. If you make your living as an arborist, you will be buying an XP pro saw, but then, you won't be reading this review either.

20" bar on a 60cc saw is just about perfect, though you can really scream and rip with an 18". 24" bar should not be considered- too many teeth to pull for a 60cc saw.

I recommend cranking the oiler up to full output. Factory setting is at 2/3.

The extra 5cc over the 455 is worth it; an extra 10% displacement gets you into the higher torque range for just a few dollars more.

Seasonal service and chain sharpening/replacement is all I have done in the year I have owned mine.

Saw starts on 2nd pull cold/ 1st pull hot. Easy starts in all kinds of weather. Compression release is appreciated toward end of day, and saves you pulling your arm out of the shoulder socket. Saw is relatively light and has a good "Husqy" feel to it. Very different than a Stihl.

Easy to muffler mod and re-tune carb for a permanent power boost after break-in. A 3/8" hole in the muffler, some stainless screen and pop rivets are all it took. Saw runs cooler and stronger after mod.

As far as power, it is not a pro saw, but I have used it for felling- mostly Cherry and Oak, averaging 16" diameter many times for the past year. I also used it twice for storm cleanup but most of my usage is firewood processing. Pulls hard and cuts great. With the 60cc motor, it will "torque up" in your hands when revving. Pretty serious saw and top of the line mid-range for Husqy.

If you can't figure out to leave the chain brake off while servicing, you probably should not own such a saw. Recommended for experienced users.
