ive had this mower for two seasons. i decided that mowing my lawn in comfort was more important than cruising around on motor cycle so i sold the bike and bought myself a riding mower. being of the ripe old age of 19 i got some strange looks from friends for my decision but it made sense to me. two years later im still very happy with my choice. my neighbor is envious of me for having a nicer tractor than he does and has complained to his wife that he wants a new tractor because i got one. this tractor does an amazing job and has more than enough power to go through tall overgrown grass without bogging down. the hydrostatic drive is extremely convenient compared to manual style transmissions. my one complaint about this mower is the ignition, in order to back up while mowing you have to make sure you turn the key to the proper position or else the engine cuts out when you try to go in reverse. once the key is set to that position it stays there so its not a huge problem because you just have to do it once while mowing an then its not a problem. i used to use a self propelled push mower so im not sure how other tractors are but the engine in this tractor sucks down the gas, about a gallon and a half is used during the half hour it takes me to do my yard. all in all i would recommend this tractor.

PS- i worked in a lawn mower shop that sold these so when you get your the PTO clutch that engages the blades will need to be broken in to provide longer life. to do this set your throttle around half and engage the blades for 15 seconds, disengage and wait 30 seconds, re-engage and repeat this process 10 times, then got to full throttle and repeat another 10 times. this will wear the clutch in and extend the life of the PTO unit.

Very solid construction with heavy gauge steel; I have yet to hurt it. The transmission is also a strong point.
However, it does a lousy job of mulching, leaving two ribbons of clipping behind you on every pass and if the grass is wet or even damp it leaves big clumps.
One other problem, which is a Briggs & Stratton problem and not a Husqvarna problem, my engine is leaking oil pretty badly around the gasket (third year of ownership).

I bought this mower at the end of 2011 after an exhaustive research process. I couldn't find a mower of any brand in the $1500 - $4000 range that didn't have at least some poor reviews. I was also finding that there were not a lot of mowers in stock locally in the late fall of the year. I was about to buy either a 21HP Kohler Husqvarna or a John Deere 300 series when I saw this mower. The deck was much better than the 21HP Husqvarna in terms of anti-scalping wheels and how solid it was built. The other feature that was a big upgrade was the electric blade engagement instead of a lever. I decided to buy the 23 HP Husqvarna and use the difference between that and the John Deere to cover half the cost of a week for my wife and I in Kauai this year. (How badly do you want green paint on your mower?) No regrets - smooth easy starting engine with more than enough power to get around our irregular and somewhat hilly yard. The steering is fantastic compared to the older mower it replaced. Maintenance is easy for oil changes, and I can buy the filters locally from a number of locations. The 48" deck cuts great in the straight stretches, but in tight turns or following inclined curves it doesn't cut as well as the 42" deck I had before. The gas cap location and size makes it virtually spill proof compared to the under the seat location on the mower it replaced. I had to add about 4 ounces of oil about 10 hours after the break in oil change to keep the oil level at full on the dipstick. I haven't added any more since. If you can find a better mower under
$2500 buy it. I actually paid less for this mower than the 15HP mower it replaced cost back in 1998. Overall very satisfied with the purchase.

After doing a lot of research, we bought this mower in June of 2008 to care for the 2.5 acre portion of our property that we consider our "yard". Until last year, when I bought a Bad Boy Outlaw XP 36HP, 72" zero turn mower to mow all 12 of our acres, the YTH23V48 was our primary mower and all around workhorse. We occasionally pull a 600 pound roller and have a 12 cubic foot dump cart that we use to haul tools, material, branches, etc that has become indispensable for moving things around on our property.

Within the first week or two after buying this mower, we shut if off in the middle of mowing the lawn and it wouldn't crank back up. We called Lowes (where we bought the mower from) and they came out and brought us a new mower the following day. The original mower started with no problem when the Lowes truck showed up, but they replaced it anyway with the new mower they had brought out. Since that time, we've had no further mechanical failures whatsoever. We just grease the fittings and change the oil and filters every year, and that's it. There's been repairs that resulted from operator abuse, but nothing that could be ruled a mechanical failure.

As long as the deck is properly levelled and the blades are reasonably sharp, the YTH23V48 does a pretty good job of mowing. I have two sets of blades and always keep the second set sharp and ready to be installed when needed. We didn't like the job this mower did of mulching, but part of the problem could be the quality (or lack thereof) of the grass that makes up much of our yard. If your grass isn't full of weeds, you may see better results than we did with with mulching.

The only part of this mower that has really failed us is the "hitch" which is essentially a hole punched through stamped steel.
