4.0 out of 5 stars Great for dancing the Hustle, for those that remember how!
Although I don't have this CD, I do have the original vinyl version from 1975 with most of these songs on it, it's great to dance to and I still remember how to Hustle. Enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not realy best from Van McCoy
I was looking for Van McCoy's CD for years. Yesterday I accidentally found this one in HMV. I purchased it without hesitation for HK[money] (about US[money]) - too expensive.

I like Van McCoy. I owned many vinyl albums 20 years ago. I am disappointed with this CD because some of his famous songs like "Get Dancing" and "African Symphony" cannot be found in this CD...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Get on down...and PARTY!", January 11, 2003
This review is from: The Hustle & The Best Of Van McCoy (Audio CD)
Oh, the 70's, they were a time of inhibitions released to the throb of a disco beat. No better purveyor of the sound could be found in the music of Van McCoy.

While his "The Hustle" was, without a doubt, one of the tunes that symbolized the decade, McCoy was also responsible for other jams that one could really "shake his tail feathers to". Many of the tracks on this fifteen-cut compilation exemplified the times. With careful arrangements of strings, horns, percussion, and rhythm, McCoy and company worked musical magic.

"Boogie Down", sounding as if it were lifted from a "spaghetti western", "Change with the Times", the self-explanatory "Party", the menacing "Night Walk", and a rousing "Theme from Star Trek" are some the highlights of an album designed to get one groovin' to the sounds, putting on the leisure suit, the stacked heels, and ready to get under the disco ball.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes me want to Hustle--and I can't dance!, April 7, 2008
By
This review is from: The Hustle & The Best Of Van McCoy (Audio CD)
The much-maligned disco era produced some great music, and this album proves it. Van McCoy was a genius, and this album reminds us of how much we lost with his premature death--and of how much remains.

The first time I heard "The Hustle," I made sure to memorize the melody so I could find out what it was and buy the record. This infectious song is a true classic, a masterpiece of arranging and performing as well as composing. As in all great tunes, the slight undertone of melancholy in this happy song gives it depth and memorability. It is one of my all-time favorite songs in any genre.

Other favorites of mine are "Love at First Sight," "Hey Girl" and "Night Walk," but each listener will have his own. The music is so energizing it makes me wish I could dance, and makes me glad to be alive. Nobody was better than McCoy at blending the orchestra with rock instruments, and at choosing just the right instrument to play a solo part. The remastering of the album is superb; it's hard to believe these recordings were made decades ago.

You don't have to like disco to love Van; you just need to appreciate catchy melodies and insistent rhythms. I defy anyone to disike this CD. I wish McCoy had lived to create more, but I'm glad we have what we do. Thank you very much, Van. I'll bet "The Hustle" is on every jukebox in Heaven.

4.0 out of 5 stars D.N.Disco -DJ, June 23, 2007

Van McCoy's music was very happy, uplifting, and melodic.Originally on the Avco/H&L"Hugo&Luigi label. This compilation comes to you via the folks at"Amherst Records in Buffalo,New York. The remastering is superb on this compilation.I would suggest that anyone who is a fan of the 70's era genre of dance music, add this to their collection. Most people probably don't know that McCoys"Hustle"was the first 12"inch record ever produced commercially!Love is the answer was also available as a 12"single.The only suggestion I would have for the folks at "Amherst Records"Is to release your next Van McCoy compilation with the original long versions of these timeless classics!

5.0 out of 5 stars ...A Truly Fabulous..., December 28, 2006
This review is from: The Hustle & The Best Of Van McCoy (Audio CD)
and classy CD is this one here. I only knew 3 Songs before, obviously the Hustle, The Shuffle (still probably one of my all time favorite songs ever) and Soul Cha Cha. Besides the Super Hustle Mix (Song Nbr 1) of The Hustle, they are all original recordings and thanks to digitally remastering they sound superb! If you only know Van McCoy because of the Hustle and if you love it as much as i do, then go ahead and buy this CD, you won't regret it and *Keep On Hustlin'" :-)

I like Van McCoy. I owned many vinyl albums 20 years ago. I am disappointed with this CD because some of his famous songs like "Get Dancing" and "African Symphony" cannot be found in this CD. Instead, it includes some not so hit songs (in my opinion) like "Boogie Down" and "Shuffle".

The CD includes a Hustle Remix (track 1), but I prefer the original mix (track 14).

I am still finding Van McCoy's CD like "Disco Baby" from Van McCoy and The Soul City Symphony. And a CD version of the vinyl album titled "Magnificent" or something with the word "Magnificent" (with a chain machine printed on the vinyl album cover).
