THE authority for hustle instruction, October 21, 2000

An excellent book! Not surprising since it's written by dance instructors and is becoming an international standard in the dance world. The text is VERY comprehensive with easy-to-follow charts. The "Precedes and Follows" section is particularly helpful, as is the Bronze Hustle Teaching Tape, which is meant to accompany the book. Overall, an excellent tool for use with my students.

Great book - but need the video too., November 5, 2001

I bought this book knowing that it was meant to be used with a companion video tape. The book is a highly detailed syllabus for Hustle all the way through Gold level. It has detailed leader's and follower's footwork charts, almalgamations and even a section on multiple followers for a single leader. There are no diagrams in the book and it really requires the video to be useful unless you are an expert at reading dance syllabus books. An important point: This book uses the &123 timing for Hustle - which I dance - but I know that many people here in the US use different timing. I look forward to ordering the video.

A good reference book, July 16, 2001

The Hustle book appears to be more suited to the professional dance instructor. My biggest gripe is that there are very few figures or illustrations to show the correct body positioning. As a novice (4 months) hustle student, I have trouble visualizing the material presented in the tables - it requires patient and careful study to digest and fully appreciate. I have not seen the accompanying Bronze videotape supplement, so this may address some of my "lack of illustration" gripes. But overall, I have to give the authors a lot of credit for disseminating this information. There appears to be a vast amount of material in this book. Also, I was very intrigued by one of the sections that describes moves for one leader and two followers. I would put this book into my reference library and use this book for further study as one progresses in hustle dancing, but I do not recommend that beginners attempt to learn how to dance from this book.
