Book Description

“The day before your wedding, expect a few mix-ups…”

In the spirit of Match Me If You Can and other great comedies by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, HUSTLED TO THE ALTAR offers a witty, face-paced story about likable people tripping into love despite their best-laid plans.

With a not so tidy past tucked behind her, Renny O’Laughlin thinks marriage to a steady man will make an honest woman of her. To that end, the last thing she wants on the day before her wedding is to see her eccentric ex-boyfriend—the one with more dollars than sense who provokes the thrill-seeker inside her. But she works for his Gran and has just learned the senior was duped by a professional swindler. Renny has to tell Con what happened before she marries another man and leaves forever.

Games-inventor Conroy Burke won’t buckle to convention, especially marriage. He’s crazy about Renny though. She's the only woman able to keep up with him. When she explains how his Gran was tricked, Con sees an opportunity to convince his wildcard she doesn't really want to settle down.

Brimming with snappy come-backs and sexy love scenes, HUSTLED TO THE ALTAR is a shell-game of playful plot twists from award winning author, Dani Collins.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This delightful novel is a whirlwind of action, humor, and romance... Readers looking for a lively, clever tale won't be disappointed." ~ Publisher's Weekly, Amazon ABNA 2013

From the Author

I was inspired by the movie The Paper, which takes place in a single day, and His Girl Friday, which is full of snappy dialogue and a hero winning back the heroine without wanting to be obvious about it. I wanted to write a caper, something action-packed with loads of humour and no real violence and something that had enough twists to keep the reader guessing. Let me know if it works for you. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Greatt book to be made into a movie November 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Hustled to the Altar reads like a romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey. There are some twists to the story I think readers will enjoy as well as the story itself. There are a couple of sex scenes that might wake a few up. The story is interestingly constructed and has a few scenes that feel forced to push forward the whole story but it gets right back on track quickly. The main characters are interesting and fun to get to know. In the beginning, Renny is hard to warm up to but once she shows her true colors, you will easily get behind her. Conroy is a real lovable jerk. You will hope through the whole story that he grows up.
Pick up this romantic comedy and be on the look out for it in the theaters. I would almost bet it will get picked up.

On the day before her wedding to Jacob one woman gets sucked into one last con in order to stop Felix from taking old people's money in fake investment schemes. Over the course of one long day she ends up in the company of former love Con. Canberra get her to see she is meant for him. And can the reporter working the story get it. All kinds of hijinks take place. If you like books with a touch of comedy or you like romance novels that don't take themselves too seriously then this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hustled To The Alter (Collins) June 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a full length, very funny, little sexy, contemporary romantic comedy.
Renny is getting married tomorrow, but before she hustles down the aisle, she needs to see her ex-boyfriend, one more time, to give him news about his Grandmother.
Con is a Gamemaster, but the games he's playing with Renny are enough to drive any girl mad.
I loved all of the characters in this book. There's a secondary romance, grifters, gangsters, reporters, hotel personnel, and pregnant police officers, and they're all tied together perfectly. And while there's enough action to fill a week, the whole story is compacted into one crazy day.
It's a fast paced, mad cap adventure, that's a lot of fun to read!

2.0 out of 5 stars OK. Let me say with the best intentions.... November 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to say, I got it. I got the gist of it. Getting to the gist of it was painful.

I loved 'the story'. I liked that when the heroine walks into the pool hall under false pretenses, 'the guy' feels he's won. I like that the fiance is totally opposite him and love, love, love the testosterone thing. (Kinda alpha male with a side of wimp).

What I did not love was the silliness that took the ball and ran down the field in the story. I'm an old lady who tortures poor check-out clerks (you know the uncle that does that 'pull my finger'? There was nothing adult about the stuff they did. I just think that the games played (and yes, games were expected) were just too asinine to be enjoyed. OK. The guy I'm rooting for is eccentric. Like that in a guy. Can we not go for the maturity of a 13 year-old?

This book had a lot of potential. If we kept the bones of it, kept the quips and digs but not make the dangerous situations take-offs from He Man, I feel this book could work.

If somebody takes the basic part of the book and writes a good, I laughed a lot, I'm glad I read it book, the author should not get mad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just a fun read. March 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My reading tastes are pretty eclectic, and I had just finished reading a book that was quite different in genre/style/everything. I was ready for one that was just plain fun, and that is exactly what I got with this one. Were they silly? Sure. This is not meant to be a realistic or serious book, I'm sure. It's not squeaky clean, so if you need it to be, you will want to pass. One reviewer mentioned that they thought the author took way too long for a book that was supposed to cover only 24 hours. I have to disagree, because had it gone any faster it would have felt rushed to me. I enjoyed getting to know the characters just a little, and could see reading a sequel to this one to see what kind of fun/trouble the main characters would be sure to get into.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twists and Turns January 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story! It was interestingly very different from what I expected. The characters were full and very human and each new twist or turn of the plot showed them in increasing depth. I was very pleasantly surprised with the unusual plot itself which had variety, humor and believability under the circumstances. Very thoughtfully developed. My emotions were pulled from laughter to sadness as I followed the difficulties of a funny, strong, independent, impulsive and loveable heroine and the man she wants but can't have - or can she? This is not the deep and pondering story you will remember forever. It's light but emotions are intense, fast with lots of twists and turns, different and very enjoyable. I laughed out loud several times. Well done Dani Collins! I look forward to more.
