5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!
Nikki Turner is an excellent writer. A Hustler's Wife is not your "typical street fiction" book. It is more than that. Nikki introduced several character and some how managed to complete each of their story lines from the beginning to the end. 1.0 out of 5 stars Oh Please....
I'm not going to sugar coat this review. The book made no sense whatsoever. First of all, the chances of a 15 year old girl captivating the mind of a seasoned hustler is not believeable. Then he meets her mother to ask her for permission to date her in full hustle gear, with a hustle mobile parked on the curb... I think not. Granted, the book is fictionally...

Granted, the book is fictionally characterized, but the writer seems to try to base the theme on the realities of "the game." Not even close. It was the fairy tale version of young girls with rich dreams. I think this was a excuse to expose the use of street slang, and throw in a few clothing lable names for added effect. If you want to read about life in this perspective, then read "The Coldest Winter Ever" by Sister Souljah. She puts it down so real. And you walk away with a truer sense of reality when it's all said and done. Sorry Nikki... it's just not poppin. Peace.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why So Much Hype???, October 15, 2003

I really don't know what the hype is about this book. It was a disappointing read. I thought it would be exciting due to the reviews it was getting but instead it was boring. To me this book is on an immature level. I don't recommend this book to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible! Ghetto Values, Ghetto Mentality & Ghetto Writing, February 28, 2004

This review is from: A Hustler's Wife (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Nikki Turner Original) (Paperback)
Did anyone even bother to proofread this book? There are numerous grammatical errors, missing words, transposed words, misspelled words and typos galore. All of these glaring errors made it difficult to get through this first-time trash novel.

If that wasn't bad enough, the plot sucked! I can dig an urban fairy tale, but everything in this book was un-friggin'-believable. The heroine is the dumbest person on the planet, yet she's supposed to be brilliant and beautiful. What I saw was a gold-diggin', opportunists who allowed herself to be used over and over again and never woke up to the "game." But then again, she did find God at the end and that makes it all good, right?!

Wrong! None of the characters were sympathetic. The twists were outrageously stupid and illogical. This was a ho video in book form with plenty of bling-bling, designer name-dropping and an ending only an idiot would buy.

My advice to someone looking for a good book, look elsewhere. My advice to Ms. Turner, try taking a remedial English class! And ask for tips on verb-subject agreement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't quit your day job!, January 20, 2004

This book was terrible. How can Nikki Turner even call herself a writer with a straight face? There was no character development, she jumped around from place to place, and the whole story was unrealistic. Next time get a better editor too!

Nikki Turner is an excellent writer. A Hustler's Wife is not your "typical street fiction" book. It is more than that. Nikki introduced several character and some how managed to complete each of their story lines from the beginning to the end. Each time you thought that you had the story figured out a new twist would occur which made you want to read more and more. She used several strong MALE and FEMALE characters. The use of promoting education regardless of your situation was excellent. The best feature was the underline religious aspect. The main character went through several situations, but in the end she was connected to her spirituality and all of her "street ways" came around for good. It was very well written!

Our Book Club (A Sistah's Expression) recently had a phone discussion with Nikki and we enjoyed her personality as much as we enjoyed reading her book. Kudos to Nikki Turner!

5.0 out of 5 stars I lived what Yarnie lived!, June 17, 2005
This review is from: A Hustler's Wife (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Nikki Turner Original) (Paperback)
Reading this book reminded me so much of my teenage years in the very late 80's and early 90's. It was as if Nikki Turner knew about all of my issues, as if she was living as me. I thought this book was very interesting. I thought the story of young Yarnie meeting Des was lovely. I once loved a man like Des and it brings back so many memories, some really great memories of the times we shared. Also other memories of the times that I shared with guys like Benji, terrible memories that I hate to think about. Yarnie had to learn just like the rest of us learned. The street life was not all that it was cracked up to be. She finally realized that without GOD in her life, no good thing would last but with GOD everything great was hers. This book was sweet at times and very hurtful at other times.I loved this book and I recommend it to everyone that is considering getting caught up in the game or has been a victim of it. Trust me, none of the money is worth it. I think GOD I was forturnate to get out without any serious problems, such as being addicted to drugs or going to prision. I loved this book and it encouraged me to keep pressing on!

3.0 out of 5 stars there's another one, July 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: A Hustler's Wife (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Nikki Turner Original) (Paperback)
Hustler's Wife is set in Richmond and after reading B-More Careful I was curious to see if Nikki Turner could do with the bad side of Richmond what Shannon Holmes did with the hard knock side of Baltimore.

First, let's be honest. This is a fairy tale. A girl's version of a street novel. It sugar coats the drug dealing lifestyle and portrays low down streetwalkers and ignorant high schoolers as heroines. If that's what you want in a book this ones dishes it up. I found it distasteful. Also, the book needed an editor. If you're going to ask me to part with my money the least you can do is come correct.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong Name, December 12, 2003
This review is from: A Hustler's Wife (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Nikki Turner Original) (Paperback)
I did not enjoy this book. First, there were too many grammatical errors. The title as well as the cover was an eye catcher, but the title doesn't support the book. She was never
his wife, unless you bring in the topic of common-law. Secondly, what mother would let her child go through so much when there was proof from the beginning to clear her name. Not a real mother!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Msjah, November 17, 2005
This review is from: A Hustler's Wife (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Nikki Turner Original) (Paperback)
Oh my she is nothing but amazing and I read this book in one day. I love the way she put the story and I really really love the way it ended. This is an everyday life situation but you rarely find women who would actually ride for her man. I love it and I pray that it will be a sequeal. Keep doing what you doing Nikki and inspired writer you are. Love your work.
