3.0 out of 5 stars Awful but hooked
This is horrible writing. But for some reason, I'm totally hooked. Love it or hate it, it's a page turner.

4.0 out of 5 stars `We've been spending most our lives living in a gangster's paradise...', November 5, 2010
This review is from: Hustlin' Divas (Paperback)
De'Nesha Diamond has penned a volatile banger in Hustlin' Divas and its sheisty characters. Orphans LeShelle and TaShara are tossed into foster homes and LeShelle bears sexual abuse in order to protect her baby sister, TaShara, and loses her youth in a group home after selflessly assuming this role. Life has stolen LeShelle's innocence and unable to accept the new foster parents kindness, LeShelle does the unforgiveable and finds herself on the cold streets alone and shunned by TaShara. A disheartened, misunderstood and abused LeShelle struggles in the streets until she finds her niche in the Gangster Disciples and soon lands the HBIC as she becomes wifey to the vile and sadistic Python, the leader of the set. Melanie is a police officer that works hard for her stripes being that her father is a captain in the department and she wants recognition for her very own accomplishments. Momma Peaches is an old gangsta that has seen it all and has recently been released from prison. TaShara Leigh Murphy has found hope with her foster parents, Reggie and Tracee Douglas, a middle class couple that only want the best for her. TaShara has followed the game plan until she caught the eye of Profit, brother of Fat Ace, the Vice Lords HNIC. Although Profit and TaShara are not in any gang, their siblings' positions place them in an explosive position...the choice between love and family.

Hustlin' Divas is filled to the brim with corrupt, immoral, and depraved characters that will astound you to no end with their cold, callous cruelty. Explicit sexually depicted scenes, murder, cunning, manipulation, deceit, death, treachery, and secrets galore adorn this novel and make it one of the most `gangsta' reads I've ever encountered. Despite back door bandits, Stella getting her groove back, backstabbers, and gun toting, blunt smoking gangstas, Mz. Diamond blessed us with a refreshing tale of young love and the vices that they must overcome just to be together. The tale read so true to life, with the emotionless actions of so many of the characters, I had a hard time deciphering and acknowledging that this was penned by someone of the female gender. I could tangibly hear a masculine voice throughout this joint, so I give Mz. Diamond major kudo's for conquering the division in her writing style and transcending above a female moniker. The ending was so awesome, I had no thought that she left the reader with a cliffhanger. She pulled a mind-boggling Houdini move within the last 7 pages and the teaser of the continuation...all I can say is STUNNING!!! Mos Def my sista! STUNNING!! 4.48****

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a Romance Novel But Still Worth Reading~~, November 10, 2010

This review is from: Hustlin' Divas (Kindle Edition)
Ms. Diamond did not disappoint in her first solo street lit effort. We are introduced to the Memphis ganglife through natives Ta'Shara, LeShelle, Yolanda and Melanie.

Sisters Ta'Shara and LeShelle are at constant odds with each other because of Ta'Shara's position as the leader of the Queen G's. Ta'Shara is constantly trying to prove to her man Python that she is a ride or die chick. LeShelle wants no part of the ganglife and is happy for the escape she is provided by her adoptive parents in their suburban home and her man Profit. Yolanda is looking for a big upgrade and is willing to do ANYTHING to gain wifey status with one of the gang's top leaders. Finally, Melanie, a police detective whose intimate ties to Python(Leader of the Gangsta Disciples) may compromise her position on the police force or will her secrets cost her everything?!

Ms. Diamond weaves a dangerous tale as these four ladies fight for their men and their lives.

Fans of urban literature will not be disappointed.

Definitely worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, February 28, 2011
This review is from: Hustlin' Divas (Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book. I can't wait until the next book comes out. Came across this author by searching or someone else but I am totally glad that I did. I love the characters in the book because it gives me a look inside a lifestyle that I don't live. Can't wait to see what Ta'Shara, LeShelle and Python has in store for us. Keep up with the great stories, you have made me a loyal follower of your work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh now I get it, December 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hustlin' Divas (Paperback)
When I first started to read this book, I was somewhat bored with it. The beginning was extremely slow for me and there were entirely too many characters for me to put pieces or occurrences together. Each person left me needing more as if a lot (or maybe a tiny bit) was missing.
It was until I got half way through the book that I feverishly tapped my Kindle for the next page, and the next page, and the next. From that point on it was smooth sailing. The chilling revelations may leave you stuck, as it did for me. There was no holding back on the ignorance, sex, grime, love, lust, and betrayal in this book. It left me thirsty for more. I'll patiently await the release of Street Divas.
Hump. While there's a thin line between love and hate, the space in between is deeper

4.0 out of 5 stars Hustlin Divas, November 30, 2010
This review is from: Hustlin' Divas (Paperback)
Not a big fan of street lit because they're usually so far fetched and tiring but I have to give it to De'Nesha on this one. This story was full of page turning drama and surpises right to the last page. Sister's LeShelle and Ta'Shara are friendly enemies since LeShelle's goal is to be the Queen B to her gangster boyfriend Python and Ta'Shara, still in high school unknowingly starts dating the brother of a rival gang leader. Since neither Profit nor Ta'Shara has a desire to get caught up in their siblings war, they figure they're safe from retaliation but they're both wrong and it just may cost them their lives. Then we meet Yolanda who desires to get her 3 children back by trying to find a rich benefactor that will take her away from the ghetto and pain that is her life. Too bad she's going about it the wrong way. Then there's police detective Melanine who has more than her share of secrets. She's the daughter of a supercop who thrives on putting drug dealers behind bars while hiding a few secrets of his own. I gave it a 4 because I couldn't stand the main male character Python and how the women just flocked to him but this was one story that I couldn't put down and read it on 2 days. Quite obvious that there will be a part 2 and I can't wait and won't mind spending my money to get it. I'd definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting!~ Great Read!, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Hustlin' Divas (Paperback)
This is an exciting read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! This is a great novel from Ms. Diamond. The setup chapters were very detailed but not boring; I felt as if I could picture the scene as it was written. I was not disappointed in the book. This book flowed as a book should; it had ups and downs....but these instances were expertly written within the book.

I loved Ta'Shara and Profit; LaShelle is one not to cross! Fat Ace, Python and Melanie make this story all the more interesting.

I applaud Ms Diamond on this novel! I loved it! I have read all of her other books, co-authored with Meesha Mink and this is a "great" book.

Keep up the good work! Street lit at its best....

5.0 out of 5 stars No Juliet You Can't Play With Romeo, November 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hustlin' Divas (Kindle Edition)
I should have waited to read this book. Now I have to sit here fiening until next year, sigh.
Ta'Shara and LeShelle are sister who end up in foster care. Several events lead to Ta'Shara finally ending up with a decent family, doing well in school and finding love among her sisters enemies. LeShelle ends up in a group home then in a gang where she finally lands the leader and move to Queen G status. And she is not giving up her title, not even to save her sister.

I agree with the other reviewer that stated the title is a little miss leading, but then I guess it depending on what you're hustlin'. It has murder, a racist cop, corrupt cops, gang violence, kinky and dangerous sex, snakes, lost family members, pedophiles, I think the kitchen sink was even mentioned, everything's included. The book leaves several cliff hangers and I can wait to see how things play out for several members of this book.
