5.0 out of 5 stars takes a while to get into, but well worth the effort!
It took me awhile to get into this album, but it is well worth the effort. Clef is at his best. The music and lyrics are great. There are a lot of rewindable moments with this LP. It just makes wonder what would the Fugees sound like now. Its worth the buy.

It took me awhile to get into this album, but it is well worth the effort. There is some repetition in the themes throughout, but Wyclef has written some really powerful lyrics and strong raps and melodies. I still love Wyclef for his consistent messages throughout several albums to get the gangsters to put down their guns and walk away. This theme comes out several times on this album. I could live without Lil' Kim's excessive raunchiness on "Gangsta Girl". I still love getting stuck in the "Clef Zone", and you will go there with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant as per..., March 15, 2010
This review is from: From The Hut, To The Projects To The Mansion (Audio CD)
Unlike others who have reviewed this album, I have all of Wyclef's albums and this certainly doesn't let you down.

It's my personal favourite since The Preacher's Son.

Great beats, great lyrics and his rapping as usual is top drawer.

Anyone looking for the background on the lyrics etc should remember that according to Wikipedia this is a concept album telling the story of the fictional character Toussaint St Jean, who is apparently loosely based on the 18th century Haitian revolutionary Toussaint L'Ouverture, who liberated Haiti back in the 18th century.

There isn't one duff track and suggest that if you are a Wyclef fan then you just buy it

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, January 25, 2010
This review is from: From The Hut, To The Projects To The Mansion (Audio CD)
I hope my review ups the average rating for thie album. Great lyrics, cool beats, very listenable, yet I think will have staying power. I'm a newbie to Wyclef's music (except for songs here and there) but I love this CD. Fun and funky, Wyclef kills it. And love Cyndi lauper's contribution- unexcpectedly cool!

what Wyclef does best is play roots music. i've seen him live, he played haitian music, reggae, it was great. The Carnival is still his best work (& John Forte is outta jail if the brothers want to collaborate again) he could be keeping it real but the majority of these songs do nothing for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Different side of Wyclef......booooring, February 5, 2010
This review is from: From The Hut, To The Projects To The Mansion (Audio CD)
This album attemps to portray a different side of Wyclef. From what I gather he is trying to show he is a hardcore rapper that came from the ghetto, etc, etc, etc. This CD does not feature the multi-talented, guitar playin, singing, rapping, political, funny, Wyclef songs that make him cool to lots of people.

If you want to here Wyclef rhyme tough over monotanous beats about how he went rags to riches, is a warrior, etc, etc,....then this album is for you.

I have The Score, both carnivals, the eclectic, and some other clef stuff and love it all, yet I can't really manage to get through these boring songs without skipping to the next.

I bought this and the new Wayne CD and they both pretty much stink! Maybe they'll grow on me.

Wyclef killed this Gangsta Grillz album!!!! Everybody needs to step their game up for this one. He inspires warns and entertains you from beginning to end. From songs like warriors anthem to walk away and streets pronounce me dead. This is in my opinion one of the best albums of the year.

2.0 out of 5 stars First experience with Wyclef Jean, December 19, 2009

I purchased this Album SPECIFICALLY because of Cyndi Lauper who is featured on and co-wrote 'Slumdog Millionaire'. (Brilliant Song and EXCELLENT COLLABORATION between these two artisits.)
I tried to be open minded about the rest of this record but what can I say?...
It wasn't for me. I would have preferred an 'explicit language' warning.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible!, August 12, 2010
Ever since The Carnival, Wyclef has steadily been getting worse and worse. Yeah, there have been a few good songs on some of his albums from time to time but mostly they blow. The Carnival had ALL good songs (except for the stupid interludes, but even that was novel then); this album has NO good songs. How sad.
