This 4500 is really a 'finish' sanding tool. The orbital pattern is smaller to give more control over fine work. It won't remove material as quick as their 4560 sander. But for finish sanding it is unbeatable and using it is a genuine treat. So, for finish sanding this is the one to get. If you want to do really quick paint or filler removal, you want to use a 8" gear-drive sander (Mudhog) first, or, second, a larger orbit DA like the Hutchins 4560 or a CP or IR DA. They will remove material faster. I have (2) CP DA sanders and I use them the most, the 4500 for finish work like primer sanding. I don't own a 4560, but I've used them at shops, and it's on my 'to get' list. If you were only going to own one DA, I'd probably go with the 4560 first for doing bodywork, then the 4500 as a finish sander. If you are sanding wood and the fine pattern is more desirable then the 4500 might be the better sander.
We use these on our production line and they get allot of heavy use. They are a little on the heavy side but they last far longer than the other manufacturers units we have used in the past. Parts are readily available as regular wear and tear does happen like with any production tool, and because they are so serviceable we buy to increase capacity not for replacement.
I do however think its ridiculous that you void the warranty if you use another manufacturers backing pad.

It was cheaper to buy a brand new one than it was to rebuild the old Hutchins 4500 in my shop. And that's not to discredit the product, the original lasted 14 years.Published 10 months ago by Sean
Best sander for the money. Use it everyday and my last one lasted almost 10 years!Published 12 months ago by Zac
