Hexbugs are fun little robots that actually include several features that one would expect in a full fledged robots. They can walk, turn and sense their surroundings. Quite amazing for something that sells for only $10 including batteries.

The Hexbug includes a microprocessor, two "feeler" sensors and a microphone that works as a sound sensor. An amazing feat of engineering occurs inside the mechanics of the Hexbug as it is able to handle all of its movement with only one tiny motor.

Unlike remote control toys, this inexpensive toy actually using feedback from the sensors to know when its hit and object with its feelers or will turn when it hears a loud noise such as a hand clap.

When you buy a bunch of them they are fun to watch them bump into each other. Toss in a ping pong ball and watch them push it around. This compete set has all five different colored and shaped bugs. The innards are the same but they look different - from the cute red ladybug one to the cockroach looking one.

Note: like real insects these robots should be handled with care and are suggested for ages 8 and up.

The kids loved this toy . . . . Enjoyed the quick and fast delivery of this item, the kids spend a lot of time with these little critters.

Once I had seen hexbugs for the first time, I was fascinated. But I'm a grown woman. So I decided to get them for my grandchildren, most of whom are toddler-aged. I figured that their parents could help them play with the hexbugs, and for the price ($15 for 5 of them), no one would have to worry about them getting broken. This is really an experiment. If they like these, we will get them more sophisticated hexbugs for future occasions.

The box includes 5, but from those in my particular box, the ladybug, though it walks fine, is extremely noisy, and one of the other bugs just does not work well (a bug with bugs); i have to make pressure in a certain way to let one of the sides (set of legs from one side) move, and the other does not move at all; it is obvious that this particular bug will not walk in a carpet. The legs seem kinda sturdy for their size (it seems like they have a metal core); the rest is thin acrylic but because of the geometry, is kinda sturdy for its size (though, since they are small, they are to be handled with care). I wanted to open the buggy ones to check if there was something wrong with the gears (all use the same machinery, the only thing that changes from bug to bug is the top and the color), but it seems there is no way to open them without damaging them. The only visible screw is the one of the battery compartment. they have 'antennae' sensors (springs) to detect collision, and they claim to be responsive to sound, though i may have clapped and made noises but i saw no reaction to sound. In general, they are relatively cheap and is fun to see them walking around

Bought three of these and one broke while the package was being opened and the other two broke within a couple of days.
