A Vision of Aldous Huxley,
This review is from: Huxley On Huxley (DVD)
Huxley on Huxley is a warm and moving dual portrait of Aldous and Laura Huxley through Laura's poignant recollections of her famous husband who authored the most influential novel of the 20th Century, Brave New World. Aldous was a prophet and his future world of the year 2,600 is here now. Aldous was a brilliant philosopher as well, helping to popularize eastern mysticism, which bloomed in the 1960s and remains as strong as ever. Yet, what is most remembered about him by those who knew him was his humility and profound kindness. He could have been rich but chose to give help to others and did so modestly with no publicity. This is the man that Laura shows viewers. And Laura Huxley was as formidable as Aldous--an accomplished concert violinist, and author of self help books long before her best sellers had their own category in book stores. She is our guide in this moving documentary crafted lovingly by Mary Ann Braubach who enlisted very willing accomplices such as narrator Peter Coyote, Nick Nolte, John Densmore (The Doors), Ram Dass, Huston Smith, and Laura's granddaughter Karen Pfeiffer. As a Huxley expert (and fan) this is a treasure and one that can be appreciated by all viewers as a window to a time when intellectual humanism was still a virtue to be deeply appreciated.
David Garrett Izzo has published three books and many essays on Huxley, as well as the award-winning historical novel, A Change of Heart, in which Huxley is the main "character."

Good stuff, a lot here I never knew about Huxley and a great glimpse at that whole group of intellectuals who Huxley associated with.

Loved this film. Learned an incredible amount of information! Didn't know that much about the Huxley family, except for the basics, and was pleasantly surprised at the detail the filmmakers took the time to present. And the Jim Morrison connection is GREAT! I highly recommend this movie! You will not be disappointed!

After perusing the web about Huxley, I found this documentary. It was incredibly informative and fascinating, especially since I didn't know a lot about Huxley's personal life. To see it through his wife, it was a good experience. Fans of Huxley will find the details of his life and his luncheons enjoyable. Recommend for sure.

Great Doc!,
This review is from: Huxley On Huxley (DVD)
This is a great documentary. It moves along at a very nice pace, it covers a broad range of people and issues but it always feels centered and focused. The research is impressive, especially into the LSD testing of the time period, and you realize how much of an impact BOTH Huxley's work had on the counter-culture. A nice foray into a part of literary history I did not know much about.

I guess this might be a great DVD for those who want to collect everything Huxley-related. Too much of it is Laura talking about Laura.
