Book Description

June 30, 2008
Devlin Montebanc knows that a Victorian man needs a place to go, someplace he can be at ease, enjoying his port, his cigars, and some special male companionship. That's why he maintains the Hyacinth Club, a traditional men's club with a twist. The sophisticated men of the Hyacinth Club find their pleasure in this series of bawdy tales. Each tale is full of heat and love, showing what those Victorians got up to behind closed doors. There's a Scottish earl, Low, who falls for Stephen, a Texas rebel. Low is determined to remain in control, but Stephen stirs his blood, and Low is constantly fighting his baser urges, only to give in to love. There's Caleb and Ethan, a pair of old friends who find each other again after years apart, playing an intimate game of one-upmanship. Bored noble Thaddeus finds innocent young scholar, Drummond, and instructs in the ways of dominance and submission. Even Devlin himself, who thinks he's too old and set in his ways for love, finds time to dally with his friends Repressed? I don't think so! Join the Hyacinth Club for a sexy romp through the Victorian era today!

More About the Author

I enjoy indulging in the shallow side of life, with hobbies that include collecting margarita recipes, hot tub dips, and ogling hot guys at the beach. A connoisseur of the perverse and esoteric, my days are spent among dusty tomes of ancient knowledge, or, conversely, surfing porn sites in the name of research. Mixing the natural born southern propensity for sarcasm and the environmental western straight-shooting sensibility, I do my damnedest to produce mainstream fiction, literary erotica, and fine works of pure, unadulterated smut.

With characters ranging from supernatural demons to modern-day cowboys, alternative illustrated men to Victorian dandies, the addiction to history and atmosphere is everpresent, and laced through with sensual pleasure. my latest projects include werewolves, rodeo cowboys, and fistfighting rednecks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good erotica collection, May 4, 2007
This review is from: Hyacinth Club (Paperback)
This collection of stories is a fun romp! The stories alternate between three main couples, but some stories have multiple parts (e.g. read about a couple, jump to a different couple, come back and finish the story of the first couple). The writing is very good, the stories are hot and the sex frequent and inventive. Each couple has something special to recommend them, but my favorite is Caleb and Ethan, the reunited friends. They meet at a costume ball without knowing who the other is. I would happily read an entire novel just about them.

However, readers should know this is an erotica/romance collection; there really is no other plot outside of the couples' interactions which occur mainly inside the club (no mystery or villains). And, since we jump between couples, there is not a lot of relationship development beyond the sex and some talking. Tortuga does cleverly imply that the couples are building their relationships when we don't see them, but for the most part we do not experience this first hand. If you are looking for some hot action, I highly recommend Hyacinth Club. If you are looking for a standard M/M romance, this might not fit the bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hyacinth Club, July 8, 2008
This review is from: Hyacinth Club (Paperback)
In the glorious Victorian age, it is expected that gentlemen belong to a private club. One such gentlemen's club is the Hyacinth Club run smoothly by Devlin, Lord Mountbanc. Of course each club has their own particular style and the Hyacinth Club is no different. This establishment caters to gentlemen who prefer the sexual company of other gentlemen.

At the Hyacinth Club such diverse men as an Earl from Scotland and a long, lean Texan or a big, burly country Squire and an inexperienced actor find wonderful partnerships. Games of submission and domination become exquisite undertakings for some of the other members of the club. The Hyacinth Club is the perfect establishment for men to be exactly whom they most desire to be.

The Hyacinth Club is scorching hot M/M romance from beginning to end. Some readers may not enjoy every couple, but there is pretty much something for everyone including light BDSM, a threesome and so much more. Talented author BA Tortuga once again showcases superb writing talent with intriguing characters and inventive sexual situations. Before you start reading Hyacinth Club make sure there's plenty of ice or you might just go up in flames. Daring and provocative, Hyacinth Club is seriously hot!
