I got the first one of these lanterns on sale. It came without directions of any sort but some exploration filled in the missing pieces. It has an internal battery pack which is charged via the solar panel on top of the lantern. It also has three AA alkaline cells which it uses for backup which I have since replaced with rechargeables. It comes with a car and wall charger for the battery pack although I don't plan to use them much. The internal battery pack will charge off just about any light source including room lights. It appears to be rugged, but just to be safe I built a carry box out of a large handy-wipe container and some closed cell foam padding. The lantern is a lightweight, easy to use, safe alternative to a Coleman-style lantern. The light output is less, but ease-of-use makes it a good choice for summer camping. There is only one light setting, but most lanterns are used on high all the time anyway. If the batteries are fully charged, it will last at least ten hours.

This Lantern very quickly became one of the very best lighting devices I own. Its range isnt as great as a flash light and the area it covers is smaller than a lamp but its brighter then both my flash light and lamp and the best part is its solar powered. It charges easily from the sun in my window. Then when I get home I use it to read under at night and its power from a day of charging last all night. It really helps me be green and use less electricity. I plan to take it camping too, its sturdy design should do well outside as well.

Iv'e been absolutely delighted with this little lantern. It charges in not too long in indirect sun and puts out great light for hours! In fact, I have yet to need to switch our out using the solar recharged battery to the backup regular batteries inside yet! Its gone camping with us and was perfect for lighting to play cards in a tent for hours and made great and ready light during a recent power outage. Highly recommend this nifty little lantern.

this is a neat little lantern. Very handy. It even charges sitting beside my chair under the regular lights. Don't expect it to put out the amount of light a large propane lantern will put out but it's great for what I need which is a camping light inside my truck camper shell.

Not for outdoor use!!
Water leaks in around solar cell on top. Lantern literally fills with water and can't get out , Do to the waterproof seal everywhere else! All three of mine were corroded beyond repair in 4 weeks.

Found this lamp in a corner of the Yosemite general store in these really beat up looking boxes. They looked so sad and we needed a lantern so badly because (it started raining buckets throughout our trip and) all of our light sources had run dry. There's no solar charging when there is no sun and we packed few batteries thinking we would have the sun. We brought one at first just to try it and out of the box, it lit up brightly. It lasted throughout the night on the stored charge alone so we had to get the other one. These were great investments and the price was similar to what I am seeing on this site for about $30.

The lamp can be charged by plugging it into a wall socket, car charger or sunlight. A little orange light tells you when you have enough sun to charge with. I'm a newbie emergency preparedness freak (After 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, witnessing the destruction of Katrina and now living in earthquake country, I want to be prepared.) My camp buddy and I each took one. I have one in my go bag and I am ordering one to keep in the home.

The biggest surprise was how nice it was to do business with this company: Hybridlight. I either didn't notice and tossed out or the lamp didn't have the adapters in the beat up looking box. I emailed them telling them where I got the product and the circumstances thinking I would just buy the missing parts. To my surprise they were so kind as to send them to me free of charge!!! I am a customer for life!

Great product, great company and it's nice that Amazon has this product on sale!

The light from this lantern is much to be desired. I have a number of "camp" style lanterns. They range from gas to battery powered units. I was looking for a unit that could forego batteries. I understood that I would be giving up lumens by the bushelful, that i believed would be offset by not having to refuel lanterns, recharge batteries constantly. This lantern throws maybe 75-80 lumens when it works. I doubt that this lantern will work for long in areas that have high humidity. Here in Hawaii we are'nt known for being a high humidity location. However the unit had condensation inside it after a particularly wet night. It was not outside in the weather. It was inside dry warm and cozy. It never worked the right way again. I have to shake and bang around for it to come on. The light will stay on for about 20 minutes and fail. I have taken it apart and dried it out with a hair dryer. It still has problems. I have bought this companies solar flashlights and they work very well. Hence my sadness in recommending this POS of a lantern. Stay away do not buy. Do more reasearch find somethng else.
