3.0 out of 5 stars Rips through paint until it chips, December 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hyde Tools 11170 Carbide Replacement Blade for Model 10610 Scraper (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought several of these blades to help scraping multiple layers off my 70+ year old windows. The blades are very sharp and they save a ton of time compared to steel blades. When fresh, they really shred through paint. My only complaint is the durability of the blades. These blades easily chip when they come in contact with metal, such as a nail head that his hidden under a layer of paint. Once chipped, the blade leaves a ridge of paint behind. After about 4 hours of scraping, I had multiple chips on both sides of the blade. And all this even though I was careful about sinking the nails in with a nail punch as soon as I saw them.

These blades still saved me a TON of time when compared to the steel, which I think is worth a lot more than the cost of the blades. Fortunately, the Bahco (formerly Sandvic) carbide blades will fit the Hyde scraper (and vice versa). Their blades are more expensive, but also much more durable; I could get 2-3 times more use out of one before they got a single chip. Either way, I would highly recommend a carbide blade for medium or large paint removal products because they scrape many times more paint on each pass, they stay sharp much longer, and they don't make that piercing shriek that can be heard for blocks.
