I purchased this scraper after having purchased the Speed Heater Paint Remover (which really does a fantastic job softening paint for removal).
In addition to this Hyde Scraper, I also own the Allway Soft Grip Scraper. I purchased the Hyde Scraper after having purchased the Allway Scraper because I wanted the option of different blades. If you compare the blades in the Hyde scraper to that in the Allway scraper, only two blades are the same. The big difference is that the blades in this Hyde scraper are much bigger so, if you are going to be doing a lot of scraping on a lot of different surfaces, it is really nice to have both.
The handle on this Hyde scraper is really comfortable. I wish it were a little bigger so I can easily and comfortably put both hands on it for better control.
My only complaint with the Hyde scraper is that it does not come with a case to hold the blades where the Allway scraper does. The case is nothing fancy, but it does the job.
With so many blade options it would also be nice if you could purchase just the handle so that you can have several handles loaded up with different blades and you would not have to stop and change them. This is exacly why I bought a second Hyde Scraper.

Stripping wood in a brownstone with a ton of detailed moldings. Added this to my Allway set for additional blade profiles. Sharp, pretty tough.

BUT, one huge con is that the soft rubber handle dissolves when left in paint thinner. When working, I keep a small bucket with paint thinner to drop the tool in when I switch to another. Makes it easy to switch from one tool to another without the paint hardening on it. By the end of the day, the end of the rubber near the blade had already begun deteriorating. Not sure they will last... Oh well.

I ordered this tool to use for scraping paint on fluted door moldings. When properly sharpened and carefully employed, the tool provides the means to remove paint from complex-shapes where a standard paint scraper either cannot reach or will readily cause gouges in the underlying substrate.

The blade is fastened to the tool handle by a T-shaped bar that extends from the end of the tool, which is inserted into the rectangular slot cut in the blade, while the lever on the handle is extended. The blade is then rotated, such that the T-bar is parallel to the width of the slot, after which the lever is folded back into the tool. This system securely retains the blade to the tool handle.

I did find that the working edges of the blade, as shipped, required sharpening. Some of the blades had extremely rough edges with small gouges. I used a mill file, together with an oil stone, to sharpen and hone the edges to a satisfactory level.

Even with sharp blades, however, I still needed to employ a heat gun to scrape the paint on the moldings I was working on - the paint was very stubbornly adhered to the wood surfaces. So, if the paint is loosely adhered and readily flakes off the tool alone is sufficient to remove it. However, be prepared to use additional means for well-adhered paint.

Finally, the tool is comfortable to hold for extended periods. However, I would advise the use of work gloves as a precaution against injury and to avoid skin contact with the old paint.

I recently received this Hyde Scraper and I really like the way it works. It has saved me a lot of time in removing old caulk and paint. If you still have some blades that you were using on a Craftsman Utility Scraper 940690 (no longer manufactured for several years) they will fit this Hyde 10450 tool.

Excellent product. Easy on/off blade changing. Sharpness lasts better than some other scraper products. I used these for scraping paint and varnish from woodwork. Nice to get a majority of this off. Makes an application of stripper much easier for final removal down to the wood. Takes a bit of practice to discover which blades to use for what surfaces.

I purchased this to use on a shelf that I coated with 2 part epoxy. The 2 part epoxy had dripped on to the back of the shelf and dried, I needed something to scrape off the epoxy this worked great, blades came super sharp and were super easy to change out! I highly recommend this.

Before I bought this, I got a similar tool that cost more, didn't have the easy blade change, but does have a much more substantial metal shaft with a soft grip handle. The blades are thick & strong enough they won't bend, and substantial enough they can be sharpened if desired & able to do so. The handle, however, is probably the weak point, I don;t see it standing up over time. Blade changes are easy, but the mechanism for doing so also seems a little flimsy and a potential point of breakage. Thankfully, the blades do fit securely onto the much sturdier handle from my other set, so I can still use them when a project calls for a bit more heavy usage than I think this will withstand. For medium duty usage, this should be pretty good, you just have to decide what's more important to you - if you want to change blades quickly & without tools, I'd go with this, if you'd prefer something a little more robust and heavy duty, I'd look at the scraper from Rockler.
