In addition to this Hyde Scraper, I also own the Allway Soft Grip Scraper. I purchased the Hyde Scraper after having purchased the Allway Scraper because I wanted the option of different blades. If you compare the blades in the Hyde scraper to that in the Allway scraper, only two blades are the same. The big difference is that the blades in this Hyde scraper are much bigger so, if you are going to be doing a lot of scraping on a lot of different surfaces, it is really nice to have both.
The handle on this Hyde scraper is really comfortable. I wish it were a little bigger so I can easily and comfortably put both hands on it for better control.
My only complaint with the Hyde scraper is that it does not come with a case to hold the blades where the Allway scraper does. The case is nothing fancy, but it does the job.
With so many blade options it would also be nice if you could purchase just the handle so that you can have several handles loaded up with different blades and you would not have to stop and change them. This is exacly why I bought a second Hyde Scraper.
BUT, one huge con is that the soft rubber handle dissolves when left in paint thinner. When working, I keep a small bucket with paint thinner to drop the tool in when I switch to another. Makes it easy to switch from one tool to another without the paint hardening on it. By the end of the day, the end of the rubber near the blade had already begun deteriorating. Not sure they will last... Oh well.
The blade is fastened to the tool handle by a T-shaped bar that extends from the end of the tool, which is inserted into the rectangular slot cut in the blade, while the lever on the handle is extended. The blade is then rotated, such that the T-bar is parallel to the width of the slot, after which the lever is folded back into the tool. This system securely retains the blade to the tool handle.
I did find that the working edges of the blade, as shipped, required sharpening. Some of the blades had extremely rough edges with small gouges. I used a mill file, together with an oil stone, to sharpen and hone the edges to a satisfactory level.
Even with sharp blades, however, I still needed to employ a heat gun to scrape the paint on the moldings I was working on - the paint was very stubbornly adhered to the wood surfaces. So, if the paint is loosely adhered and readily flakes off the tool alone is sufficient to remove it. However, be prepared to use additional means for well-adhered paint.
Finally, the tool is comfortable to hold for extended periods. However, I would advise the use of work gloves as a precaution against injury and to avoid skin contact with the old paint.

great tool; highly recommend it; some reviewers stated the blades came dull and needed sharpening; I did not find that to be the casePublished 4 months ago by Noel V. Pesce
It doesn't look like much in the package but I'm pretty happy with it. It's a small scrapper for tight spaces but it applies some nice hard pressure right where you want it. Read morePublished 5 months ago by Anony Bob
