I got this to replace the pump in my BioCube 14. The stock pump is rated at 137 GPH, so I figured 300 GPH would double the flow, and help the filtration system.

The first thing I did was to place both pumps into the sink, covered them with water, and see how high the water streams reached. The Pico 1200 bubbled up about 5-6 inches. Then I placed the stock BioCube pump in. Thinking that it's 1/2 the GPH rating, I didn't expect much. But it shot up about 12 inches...WOW!!! This shouldn't be.

So, I did an unscientific test on both pumps(BioCube is still in the box) by filling a 5 gallon bucket with water and timing how long the pumps take to evacuate the water. I then took the times and calculated what it converts out to in GPH.

The results were actually surprising. The stock BioCube pump was right at 137 GPH,exactly the rated flow. The Pico 1200 was at 152 GPH, I was puzzled, so I retested the Pico. The second time it was 163 GPH, 54% of the mfg stated flow.

So, is it a good pump, yes. But it doesn't put out the stated GPH. I was disappointed.
I will still use it as it is rated a few watts less, and that should keep the 14 gal. tank just that much cooler.

Replaced the stock pump in my biocube 29gal with this. It seems to be functioning fine though for a BC29 it may not be the best pump to use. It has a larger outlet which of course requires larger tubing which is more prone to developing a a kink when bent. I'll have to locate some better tubing. Also, the flow rate adjuster on the pump broke within 5 minutes of me handling it. On the plus side it does have a fairly high flow rate with low power consumption compared to most pumps out there. It does have a low head rating so I simply moved mine up in the BC return chamber.

3 year update!
Pump is still running fine. I'm now using this as a reactor pump in my 60 cube and before that as a salt mixer. As long as you clean it every 3-6 months it'll perform. Really surprised that it's still running to be honest. For ~$20 I didn't think I'd get 3+ years of use out of it.

No gaskits on the inside of the case, fare amount of water pressure lost due to leakby around the power cord. No good for lifting water or any thing that puts backpresure on the pump, causes water to come out the sides and top of the impeller cover. I thought it might be damaged but after opening it up I see the issue is by design.
Disappointing from what I have come to expect from hydor.
1200 model
On the other side its vary quiet. Hard to tell its on.

Quiet pump. Probably actually only puts out half the GPH that it claims to though. Have been running these for 4 months with no issues, other than I had to add another circulation pump due to the fact that these are not as powerful as they claim.

I originally upgraded my nanocube 28 to Maxijet 1200's.. They burned out after a while on a wave maker.. I replaced them with another set.. They burned out.. Another burned.. The MJ's would get noisy as all hell too after a while.. I hate that noise! I realized that each time they burned out I was sticking this little tiny Hydor pump on until I could spend another 30 or so bucks to replace these mj1200's everyone seems so in love with.. Finally I decided to look for an alternative after the 3rd or 4th pump burnout.. I found these.. Been running for close to a year without issue. Same or better flow and half the size.. Oh, did I mention they are quiet?

The only thing I don't really care for is that the adjustable intake area could be suseptible to clogging and should be cleaned out fairly often. I've had a couple of smaller starfish or snails sneak into the back and block the intake. Just a quick removal and wiping fixes that. I do a vinegar bath every couple of months just to clean off any gunk too.
