3.0 out of 5 stars Great heating cable with one MAJOR design flaw, May 6, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hydor HYDROKABLE Cable Heater 100W 32.8 ft 40/65 gal CE (Misc.)
Now that Red Sea no longer makes their Root therm system, which was a great product, this product and the very expensive german Dupla system are all we have. I purchased two of the 100Watt cables for one of my 150Gal tanks. They work great, excellent construction, easier to install then the Root Therm, and produces more constant temp. HOWEVER!! Like most of these systems there is a spot on the cable that marks where it needs to be under the substrate (the heating element) The problem is the distance from the heating element to the plug is 37" ( 3 feet 1 inch ) Thats REALLY short!! My tank is 32" deep, so I had to go and buy extension cords and now I have plugs hanging on the back of the tank too close to the water. I believe the reason they designed their product this way is so that more people buy the thermostat that they sell as an add-on.
Other then that great product, if you don't have a deep tank then don't hesitate to buy.
Also I don't know what the other guy was talking about the anchors are not easily broken, Mine are made of a sturdy none brittle plastic or rubber, they work great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent enough, January 20, 2008

Generally the heating cable is constructed well. The only thing I have a problem with is the anchors for the cable. The plastic is not the most rugged kind. One of the anchors snapped in my hand while I was installing the cable. They could also have included more anchors, there weren't enough.
