The Boys Just Wanted to Play,
This review is from: Hydra (Audio CD)
I've heard quite a few Toto albums at this point, and I would have to say that Hydra is just as good as Toto I and Toto IV. The title song (and opener) took several listenings for me to figure out, but I finally got it (with the help of the music video on YouTube). It has a dark, creepy sound, but in that irresitably catchy way. Both "Hydra" and "St. George" appear to be connected to the album cover, but that's it. This is not a theme album that tells a story. "99" is one of those songs that sounds better the next time you hear it. "Lorraine" is a song I'd never heard, but it's actually really good and gets stuck in your head. "All Us Boys" is a fast-rocking song that makes you wish you knew how to play guitar. Everyone's vocal cords are in prime condition here, delivering one great song after another. Don't be afraid to try something new: Hydra is a terrific album that all Toto fans should own. I can give you my personal guarantee that it will not cease to amaze you every time you hear it.

Toto Concept album.,

This Toto album has great musicianship and production. Like the best music. Toto soars from a whisper to a scream. Hydra is one of there best albums. Please give Hydra a listen. You will be happy you gave it a try.

Still sounds good...30 years later.,

If the Toto catalog would ever get a proper remastering, "Hydra" would merit 5 stars. Arguably the band's best album, outside of "IV".
