The pictures are beautiful, making this a great 'coffee table' book. But the practical advice on how to care for Hydrangeas is skimpy.

If you are looking for real practical advice better buy Glyn Church books or the Gardener's guide. For real deep insight Michael Dirr's book is invaluable. But this book, which is rather useless as a practical guide, has the power of really showing the beauty and poesy of the flowers. The photographs are outstanding and really inspiring, and I think it could be appreciated by beginners and experts alike.

Hydrangeas are my favorite flowers for color and just the impression they make when a healthy hydgrangea plant is in bloom. The sizes of the blooms, the color variations, the shapes of the heads, there is nothing about the hydrangea that doesn't delight me, so when I found this book I decided I needed to own it. I am so glad that I gave in to the impulse to add this to my library. The photographs are so beautiful and crisp you feel like you could reach into them and create a bouquet to enjoy. The information about the history of the flower and other anecdotal facts is very interesting, but I must be perfectly honest that I wanted this tome just for the photos. Bottom line, this is a beautifully illustrated book filled with beautiful photographs of exceptional examples of the hydrangea in all its varieties.

It's not worth the money. The plants are not correctly identified by botanical name and the information is unreliable. Buy Dr. Dirr's book.
