5.0 out of 5 stars Lawn art to lift a leg on...
I've got a little dog, Fred, who is a Yorkshire Terrier. 3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but small
This is very cute and looks great in my yard. I was hoping for something a bit bigger, pretty small and short.

I've got a little dog, Fred, who is a Yorkshire Terrier. Fred is not a fan of peeing on the grass at all, instead he chooses to do his business in one of our stone-filled raised flower and garden beds and usually looks for any sort of "landmark" to pee on. These landmarks have included some very expensive shubbery and flowers as well as pricey metal lawn sculptures.

I purchased the Fire Hydrant Statue in an attempt to get Fred to pee in one spot and stop adding his own special "patina" to my metal lawn sculptures and it didn't seem to work at first. Fred had no desire to even get near the hydrant and while I was not overly disappointed because the hydrant itself is super cute and looks really good in my flower bed, I was still wishing Fred would get the hint and use it as his peeing landmark. I told my husband late last evening that Fred didn't seem to "get" he was supposed to use the hydrant and my husband mentioned that Fred had no reason to use the hydrant right now since it had no attractive scent on it. So under the cover of darkness, my husband slipped outside and "primed" the hydrant for Fred. This morning, Fred was instantly drawn to the hydrant and has used it several times already!

Now while "priming" the hydrant may not be as practical for city dwellers, there are plenty of products available at any pet or sporting goods store to use for that purpose. In fact, I will more than likely need to get some sort of alternative if Fred's hydrant needs a booster over the winter months when my husband isn't so inclined to "prime" the area when it's 20 below and blizzarding out there :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly attractive, not just practical, June 27, 2009

I'm one of those weird people who thinks that an old timeworn fire hydrant is beautiful in its own rustic way. This little hydrant has that beautiful, ages-old look, with a beautifully deep shade of red... it's not garishly bright red or plastic looking. It actually looks very appealing in my yard!

And, needless to say the pups give it five stars as well. I placed it in a mulched area so the excess, um, nitrogen wouldn't harm the grass. Overall I'm very happy we added this little art piece to our backyard landscape.

Since I have a male dog that likes to use the middle of the yard, and leave me wonderful yellow spots all over, I thought If I could find something that looked nice, maybe I could train him to "go" in one spot.

I thought this looked good in the picture, and it looks good in person too. It looks really nice. I also bought the "potty" rock to help encourage the dogs. I set it out in the yard and it looks good. So far both dogs have ignored it, but I have hope. If not, it adds a nice touch. I am very pleased.

And, the shipping was fast. I was surprised I received it so quickly. Thank You.

It is just like the photos, good looking piece of art, no one knows it's for my dog. My dog uses it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Hydrant, July 16, 2011

My Wheaten Terrier is about 21 weeks old right now. Although I've seen him do a patial leg lift, I haven't seen it in awhile. If he's going to do it, he'll probably learn it from other dogs at daycare. Regardless, this fire hydrant is a beautiful piece of lawn art. It makes a great conversation piece, and if he uses it some day, it will actually be useful as well. It's very nice and I'm glad my wife bought it regardless of whether or not my dog does his business on it. Heck, maybe I'll use it ! ! !

I can't tell what the material is but it's durable (it's not ceramic or any type of pottery material). In cold weather climate I would suggest storing it indoors in the winter months. Like everything else it will do much better left out of direct sunlight. I find that there's nothing in the world that can hold up to the sun. Overall, I don't miss the money. It's very nice and was packaged well from Amazon.

2.0 out of 5 stars damaged!, April 18, 2011

i am not rating this on looks or functionality. i received this today and it was in several pieces. However, due to amazon's poor return service, I am not returning for fear they will give me a partial refund as always. so, now that all but one of my fingers has superglue all over it, i still realize it is missing pieces which are not in the box or package. to me that means it was damaged before i got it. well, i guess i will have to use some molding clay on the bottom and repaint it. luckily i have some artistic ability or i would have a almost $40 loss. upset i have to spend my time doing this now!

My dogs are very small, 3 to 5 lbs. This hydrant is the perfect size for them! They love it! I've planted it in a area I want them to "go" in. It attracts and keeps them in the one area. GREAT!

It's a little small. Good for a small dog or garden ornament.
Looks realistic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Packaging Is Terrible, June 26, 2010

The produce was perfect, just as described. Unfortunately, the packaging was terrible and the piece arrived in pieces. If it weren't for a glue gun at home and the expertice to repair the product, it would have been returned. This is what I received from the seller:
Very sorry to hear this, Ms A.... In this case, The hydrant was sent directly from Amazon's warehouse by their staff who prepared it for shipping... It did not involve Collectibles + Closeouts. Kindly call Amazon's Toll Free number at 866-216-1072 to properly report this bad experience... Thank you, Don Hein, Owner- Collectibles + Closeouts
