4.0 out of 5 stars What you Get For the Price
I bought this light to grow some houseplants from seed. It worked well, although my plants did die (my fault, not the light... I think). I decided to buy two, and the second one did not work! BetterGrow Hydro gave me a refund and it was relatively easy to return. I commend them for the service. Keep in mind that if you decide to buy this because its much cheaper than any...

3.0 out of 5 stars a little flimsy
The whole fixture is a little flimsy, and flexes very easily, making the lights flicker or go out. The included hooks are too short, and I had to adapt them to ensure it hangs stable, and the power cable is quite short. Overall, while this does what it has to do, it isn't a very effective grow-light, and I would rather spend more and get something better next time.

I bought this light to grow some houseplants from seed. It worked well, although my plants did die (my fault, not the light... I think). I decided to buy two, and the second one did not work! BetterGrow Hydro gave me a refund and it was relatively easy to return. I commend them for the service. Keep in mind that if you decide to buy this because its much cheaper than any HPS/MH/High Output flourescent setup, you get what you pay for. The metal is cheap and flimsy, but it works and does come with hardware to set it up. The cord isn't very long either so you might need an extension, but the plug is a two-prong not a three so it can plug into any outlet.

Make sure you buy the right bulbs!! You 2, 24" F20T12 20 watt normal fluorescent bulbs, NOT the high output ones because they won't go in. Normal fluorescent bulbs have two little prongs which you twist in to the fixture. This is NOT a high output fixture and cannot work with any bulbs with higher than 20 watts. Do some research on the plants you're growing before you buy a light. A lot of plants need more lumens to grow than this can put out.

I used this fixture for seedlings, so it was on for 12 hours a day for a couple of months. Then it died abruptly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dented Housing, March 25, 2009

This product functions well but arrived with the housing dented. As there was no damage to the box, the dent probably occured in manufacturing and they shipped it anyway assuming I wouldn't go to the trouble or expense of sending it back.

I am buying 2 more of these light fixtures as I was so happy with the first 2 and have expanded my seed starting area. The price is great - does the same job as those fancy-looking expensive ones and I couldn't find this shorter size at any hardware store.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap light, June 30, 2008

Light worked for about 8 months and then one side stopped working. I picked up another one @ wally world for eight bucks and it came with the thinner flourescent bulbs. This one does not come with bulbs. I would not recommend this if you have it always on. Shop around there are better deals out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerously Cheap, December 6, 2009

Think twice before you hang these in a room occupied by loved ones. The fluorescent tubes twist into the sockets but they DO NOT LOCK IN. A vigorous nudge could knock out the lights and smash on an unsuspecting cranium, showering the victim with shrapnel and mercury vapor.

Even if the price is all that matters, you'll probably still need to invest in an extension cord because the attached cord is criminally short.

As if all that weren't bad enough, the label is misleading. These lights have nothing to do with hydroponics and the bulbs are not included. It's just a cheap, shoddy ballast for ordinary fluorescents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great light, November 24, 2008
This review is from: Hydrofarm 2-Foot Hanging Shop Light, White
I think this light rocks. It is a cheap alternative to pricey fixtures that do the same thing. This is great for germination. It also works great with my african violets, succulents and orchids. Highly recommended.

Came on time and in great shape. I searched and searched and this is the best price for a 2-foot hanging shop light I could find. I'm thrilled with this light.
