The fish in my in my outdoor pond were looking sluggish. I tested the ph,acid and chlorine levels and everything checked out ok. I figured maybe my water feature was not moving the water fast enough to keep it aerated so I decided to add this pump. My pond is 10x8 and about 2 to 3 feet deep. I was surprised that this little pump was able to move so much air.

Minutes after adding it to my pond the fish came alive and started swimming around. The pump puts out a lot of air, even in 3 feet of water the bubbles make it all the way to the top. The pump does not come with any tubing or instructions (at least in my box) and it does not have an on and off switch. There is just a knob to control how much air you want it to pump. It uses 1/4" diameter air tubing. I used Jardin Aquarium Fish Tank Ponds Ceramic Air Stone Diffusers, 40mm Diameter with this pump.

Compared to your typical aquarium pump, this pump is quiet. It has been running constantly since I bought it and I have not experienced any issues. The pump is not waterproof so if you plan to use it outdoors is has to be protected from the elements. Also make sure there is adequate air flow around the unit or else the motor may burn out.

Update 4/21/2013: The pump has been running non stop for a year now without any issues.
Update 02/25/2014: 2 years of non stop use and the pump is still going.

This pump worked okay for a few months but the plastic mounts that hold the diaphragms in place are extremely cheap! I sent emails to the company weeks ago without any acknowledgement that I even exist. I would not ever buy anything hydrofarm again. I will upload pictures of the broken part.

I've had this pump operating for several months, seems to work well, not too noisy and puts out a good amount of air. If the air hoses are difficult to install I just lick the nipples and they go on much more easily.

I have had a LOT of pumps in the last 40 years. Hands down the best air output EVER. The nipples stick OUT instead of being inverted (what's THAT all about?) Turning the air down a bit makes it bit louder, but otherwise a very quiet very powerful pump with a one year warranty. Has a cute retro look but as another reviewer observed nobody cares what an air pump LOOKS like. I will never buy a Whisper again. Hope these guys keep making them, good price too.

Bought this to replace one failed pump and one very noisy pump. It was slightly quieter than the noisy pump it was replacing, on the lowest setting. I bought some airflow reducing valves to attempt to quiet it further based on some other reviews, they did also help a little. A bubble wand with finer holes than the old bubblestones also seemed to help keep the noise down (a little). However, after a couple months it seemed like the noise was getting worse. I found that the only way to reduce the sound was to pick up the unit and apply pressure between the top and bottom by squeezing. This reduced the noise it by about 80%. I tried tightening the screws, no go.

The solution - I wrapped a plumbing band clamp (the metal type with the screw to tighten it) around the pump just behind the adjustor knob, and put a dome shaped rubber washer between the band and the underside of the pump (this helped really push up on the underside without the camp cutting into the plastic). This worked like a charm, the pump is nice and quiet now. It makes less noise on full power now than it did at the lowest setting before.

The air pump on our 1 gallon tank quit after about six months. I've been itching to set up a 5 gallon tank we have. It comes with a filter but I thought a 6" stone would be a nice effect. I was initially concerned when ordering because a review writes about this unit not generating enough air for that size stone. Well, I hooked both tanks up and at the LOWEST setting, the 6" stone in the 5 gallon tank emits a maelstrom! I'm going to try servicing both tanks with a t-bar off ONE of the outlets to see if I can end up with a gentler effect. Will advise if this works, but in the interim, my impression is that this pump is probably best suited to a tank that's > 20 gallons. It is a very sturdy unit and is about the size of 4 sticks of butter. It seems quite quiet at the lowest setting and not much louder at the highest.

Bought this to replace an old Whisper 40 in my 29 gallon. Received the package today. It took about 20 seconds to install. And now I can't even see the back of my aquarium because there are so many bubbles coming out of my 10' air bar. The air bar is in about 15 inches of water. This was a major upgrade from my old Whisper 40. I read a couple of reviews complaining about it being loud... it isn't any louder than any other the other pumps I have had before. I gave it 5 stars because I'm really impressed the the output. The dial lets you control the amount of flow significantly.

Can't complain one bit about this little guy. Good price adjustable air speed. Cord is a little short but made due.
