Nice bright bulb. Works great for new sprouts and fill in light for larger plants. Does not get hot.
Only bad thing is bulb is very fragile and heavy, needs special packing. Expect it to be broken during shipping. I bought five before I got one unbroken. If you dropped this from more than three inches expect it to break. Ballast is built in, has mogul socket 110v, Hyrdofarm hood is nice but a piece of white cardboard will work as good.

I purchased two Hydrofarm FLC200D 200W Compact Fluorescent Bulb - Daylight 200 watt compact fluorescent daylight lamps in January. For what it's worth, they arrived in perfect condition. I was using them in a daylight exposure box, not a hydroponic garden; they had less than an hour's use altogether when they failed. One lamp will now come halfway on, but the other one doesn't work at all. They have not been dropped or abused; they just haven't stood up for the relatively brief on/off cycles that this application requires of them. I can't afford to keep replacing lamps (at nearly $60.00 apiece!), and unfortunately, the window for returning them has passed.

I saw the reviews on the Hydrofarm packaging, and that a lot of people were getting broken bulbs, but thought I'd take a chance. Well, mine was broken too.

I was scared to order a bulb and have it come in the mail. I thought it would come broken.
But no way. This company packed the thing to survive a huracain.

I guess I was lucky. My bulb arrived in perfect shape and is working really well. This was an upgrade for me from the 125watt bulb and my plants are definitely doing better.

I bought this as an upgrade for the Hydrofarm reflective ballast with a 125watt bulb. I have indoor plants that need lots of light so when I had the opportunity I purchased this here on Amazon. The bulb arrived in 4 days, with standard cheap shipping, and in ONE PIECE! I was so happy and relieved to see I wasn't one of those unlucky SOBs that got a box of broken glass. It indeed was packaged very very well! I would estimate it is somewhere around 40% brighter than the other bulb, just considerably stronger. The bulb is wider, maybe by an inch in diameter more. Not as long as the 125watt, but much fatter. It barely fits in the horizontal Hydrofarm reflective wing. I will see how my plants respond to this, I sure hope they show signs of improvement! Will Update!
P.S. - I have ordered two Hydrofarm bulbs in the past 2 months. All the reviews are from 2011 or before. Maybe Hydrofarm has fixed their silly shipping problems and gotten some quality packaging? Give Hydrofarm a try despite those reviews. I stand by them powering my plants and helping me breathe!
