Product Description

Hydrofarm’s self-watering tomato planters provide lightweight, strong support for tomatoes, beans, peas, cucumbers and other climbing plants and flowers. Use with any potting soil or coco planting mix and the easy-fill reservoir system delivers water and nutrients from below, helping avoid over or under watering. The sturdy frame construction help support the weight of vines as they grow, allowing the plant to devote more energy to developing fruit and preventing the fruit from falling off before it’s ripe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Get the right soil, June 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hydrofarm GCTR Tomato Trellis Garden on Wheels (Lawn & Patio)
So, I have the trellis system as well as the tomato barrel. The barrel is working just fine and the water wicks up into the plant quickly, however the trellis is a different story. The self-watering function is just no working. The system was easy to put together and intuitive, however once I got the soil in and added water, the water just sat in the bottom and was not wicked up to soil. I think this may have something to do with the soil mixture that I used or it could just be faulty design. I would recommend purchasing soil made for this type of planter if you buy one or it will not be doing what it's supposed to do.
