Gave it a 5 cause the stand was what I wanted, I just order the wrong version.
Never mind that the locking mechanism responsible for suspending your (likely expensive) light assembly of choice is equally of poor quality; or that the lanky leg tubes are 3/4" steel, which is admittedly sufficient IFF properly designed. I'm really disappointed at the fact that the marketing photo which blatantly exploits perspective is a subtly false representation of the product and clearly NOT what was received.
If you plan on disassembling this stand after use, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. I doubt this poor design would survive a single disassemble and reassemble, let alone an entire season of reasonable handling. I do not plan on purchasing another Hydrofarm product in the future.
* UPDATE 04-Feb-2015:
Last week, I decided to look for an alternative solution at a local horticulture store and stumbled upon the 2-foot variant of this stand; after explaining my disappointment with the 4-foot variant, the store owner allowed me to open the box for inspection. Unsurprisingly, it was the same junk design.
A bit difficult to move cords to adjust height of light. Plastic "thing" that is supposed to grab strings and maintain height is cheap and hard to set. I don't trust it to not slip, so I tie the cords to the bar after setting height. Plastic joint connectors are weak. I will disassemble and store it when I'm not using it, and I don't expect the joint connectors to last more than a couple of assembly cycles.
I expect I'll have to add metal angle brackets at the joints - not a big deal, but it should come with them. I would have paid 50% more to get an improved version. Haven't decided what to do about the height adjustment problem.
It costs almost nothing to operate per month.

Love this stand for starting my dahlias indoors. It has a light that can be lowered and raised as the plants grow taller and is light weight and very easy to store away in a box. Read morePublished 6 days ago by June E. Davila
The weight of my LED broke this thing like a twig. It is made of all plastic and cannot handle the slightest of movements with the weight of a light. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Mo
