The Dayspot 60-watt grow light attaches itself to just about anything its 3-inch-wide, spring-loaded, rubber-lined hand clamp can fit on. The bulb lasts about 3,000 hours and can easily be replaced at a local hardware or grocery store. Most plants require 12 to 14 hours of sunlight every day, but very few locations afford so much exposure. This grow light works particularly well with orchids, bonsai, and most houseplants. It should always be placed at least 12 inches above the plant, and keep in mind that the height above the surface it is lighting is equivalent to the radius of the area of light. In other words, if you were to place the lamp 24 inches above the surface, it would effectively light an area with a radius of about 24 inches. Also, please note that this is not an appropriate lamp for standard lighting needs. --Eli Huntington

Customer Reviews

It works like a charm and is very bright!

The hood which acts as the reflector for the bulb needs to screw onto the socket that is corded.

This item works great for some outdoor potted plants while keeping them indoors for the winter.

Overall I'm pleased with the lamp, it was easy to assemble and works well. I went to Lowe's today and found the same lamp for $6.99 though. It doesn't come with a light bulb but the light included gets hot and you wouldn't want to use it too close to your plants anyways. I put in a CFL grow light that uses 11W compared to this bulb's 60W and produces a fraction of the heat. If you don't have a Lowe's near you then you might want to get this lamp, but go with the $6.99 version if you can.

This little light is easy to assemble, needing not much more than a screw driver to tighten the nut and screw. Once it is clamped down on another sturdy object, it stays put. It doesn't wobble or come undone. The cord is five feet long. Depending on how far away this lamp is from the plant, the effective radius is plenty enough (about 24" from a foot away). I use this over a germination set next to my bird cage, and my little dove gets some of that light as well.

One thing about this that may be dangerous to other users: the black hood that goes around the socket gets VERY HOT! This lamp would not be recommended around birds or small children. However, set in a nice location this is a pretty lamp that provides good swivvel and warmth.

This clamp comes with a 60-watt bulb, packed in its separate cardboard support.

I purchased this lamp/bulb combo for a bonsai palm that I have in my office. Without windows, that is my only guaranteed source of light. I figured I would give it a try and if it didn't work out, I would keep my plant at home instead. I have the lamp set on a timer and the palm is doing so well. I like the clamp mechanism as I can clamp the lamp to a nearby bookcase. Extremely happy with my purchase.

I bought this last winter to keep a few plants alive until spring. It certainly did that and more. My basil plant which had begun to droop and lose leaves in the fall, spruced right back up and I was able to harvest basil leaves all winter long.

My one complaint is the bulbs... they don't last very long at all. I only have the light on in the late-afternoon to evening when the natural light from the window begins to fade, and even then the bulbs burn out after only a few weeks. They're very expensive.

I bought two of these for a two shelf mini greenhouse and all of my seedlings are thriving. The lights are a little bigger than I thought they would be and the two of them fully light up the top shelf of the greenhouse. I was worried about them getting hot and maybe melting the plastic cover, but after nearly a month of daily 12-14 hour use that hasn't been a problem at all.

This is a good grow light if you have smaller plants. I'm currently using it for my aquaponics garden above my fish tank. The area it covers is poor, but if you have the light focused on a specific plant, it seems to provide enough light for it to grow. I might purchase something bigger, but these are perfect for a single plant, or a few smaller plants closer together.

edit-some slight burning going on with the leaves of my chili plant....Keep an eye on the distance. There is a really small threshold between this light being too close, and too far away from your crop.

I recently purchased one of these for a bonsai tree that I received as a gift. I already had a couple of light bulbs for growing indoors, but they weren't giving my tree (a hinoki cypress that's about a foot tall) adequate light. The leaves were getting pale and it didn't seem like it was thriving. Several bonsai websites recommended this light, so after browsing for a while I ordered one from a hydroponics supply company. No matter where you order from, you will end up spending around $30 for this kit (cost plus shipping). The lampshade is highly reflective and focuses all the light into one small area, which is ideal for growing a single plant as I am. The bulb is broad spectrum and simulates natural daylight. The bulb itself is pretty small and doesn't put out too much heat, so you can place it fairly close to the plant without causing harm. I like that the lamp is clip-on. I put a wooden pole vertical next to my plant, so I can adjust the angle of the light on different days to ensure my plant gets even lighting. Already my little tree seems much happier. The leaves seem to be returning to the lush green color they were when I first got the tree from the nursery (it was an outdoor tree). My apartment faces north and I get no natural sunlight through my windows, so it is imperative that I supply the tree with adequate light. If you are growing a larger plant, or several smaller ones, I would definitely recommend the 150W kit. While this lamp suits my purpose well, the total light output is a little weak. Remember that it's only a 60W bulb. Think of it as a spotlight ("dayspot") for a small plant, such as in the picture.

I have had 3 light bulbs burn out in less than 2 months. The 60W burned out in less than a week! Then I purchased two 150W and one of them burned out only 4 weeks later. As we speak I'm waiting to see the other one die out on me any day now.

DO NOT, waist your time, or your money. In our local hardware store this is the only brand that is carried and the only grow light they support, ironically they are always running low because people are forced to replace them on a regular basis.

Oddly so even though I have several rare and tropical plants growing indoors with very little sun light coming in, the one light that has not died out on me thus far in over a year has been my fluorescent reading lamp that I keep on along with my grow lights. My plants respond better to this particular light better than all the grow lights I've had in the past year. This $15.00 reading lamp is six years old, and the fluorescent bulb in it has never been changed.

So how is it that Agrosun is not able to make a descent light bulb? Yes, the more you spend the more you get, but 60W should not last under a week, nor a 150W only a month. My more expensive lights lasted over six months so it is not like I had high expectations.

NOTE:
My 150W grow light kit mentions that it's one year guaranteed on the box. IT IS A LIE!
