Take the guesswork out of watering your hanging and full-foliage plants with the Hydrofarm Thirsty Light Curve Digital Indoor Plant Moisture Sensor. When a plant's soil becomes dry, the LED on Thirsty Light blinks to let you know. The conveniently curved sensor features a small 2-inch green top, so you won't even know it's there until it starts blinking. You can leave the sensor in one pot, or use it to periodically check moisture levels in all your indoor pots--it tests conditions in one second, providing fast, accurate reads.

LED Alert Tells You When to Water Plants
The Thirsty Light continuously monitors the condition of the soil in your hanging and full-foliage plants, testing the moisture level once every second. The senor top features a small LED light that flashes once it's time to water your plant. While the sensor measures a total 6 inches, the green top is a mere 2-inches long, so you won't even notice it until the soil becomes dry.

By letting you know when your potted plants need water, Thirsty Light eliminates the temptation to overwater. A comprehensive user and watering guide is also included.

Light Blinks Faster as Soil Becomes Dryer
Thirsty Light uses Drypoint technology, which can sense five different levels of dryness. As the soil gets dryer, the light blinks faster, letting you know how urgent the need for water is becoming. The included moisture signal chart explains each blinking pattern. And, the sensor has a unique blinking pattern to indicate when the batteries are low.

The curved design makes this Thirsty Light ideal for placement in hanging and full-foliage plants, so that you can clearly see the LED when it's blinking.

Resilient and Long-Lasting Probe
Thirsty Light features an ABS plastic casing and a durable brass probe. With constant use, the probe will change color and develop a patina, which simply helps protect it from corrosion. If left in soil for long periods of time, simply wipe the probe with a damp cloth to remove mineral deposits.

Product and Warranty Information
The Thirsty Light is backed by a manufacturer's 30-day limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. It's powered by two 1.5-volt lithium batteries that can be replaced when necessary.

What's in the Box
Moisture sensor, two batteries, and user guide.

Product Description

Angled probe for hanging plants, Blinks faster as soil dries, Great for dorms, homes and amp; office Stop chronically over-watering. The Thirsty Light is a digital plant moisture sensor that blinks an LED to alert the user when it is time to water a potted plant. It is designed to be unobtrusive when left in the soil of a plant, where it continuously monitors conditions, testing the moisture level once per second. Thirsty Light can sense 5 different levels of dryness, causing the light to blink faster as the soil gets dryer, increasing the urgency of its call to action. When it reaches the fifth level, "completely dry", the device goes into standby mode to conserve electricity, emitting a double blink every 3 seconds. There is a low-battery mode as well: a slow triple blink. The Thirsty Light comes with a comprehensive and informative user and watering guide.

I purchased two of these units for different plants. One of the units broke the first day I used it. I was pushing the unit into the soil of a pot and it fell apart in my hand. It was impossible to fix so I salvaged the batteries and threw it away. The second unit is still with me and does work but you have to handle it with great care. My mom has one of the older units with the gauges that I wish I had purchased instead of this item. The gauge unit is bigger and somewhat clunkier but it lasts much longer. Bottom-line: works but is delicate and not a particularly good value.

This item has been well worth the purchase. It's been approximately three months and my Boston Fern has doubled in size in my winter Eastern facing window, due to proper watering. The plastic pot my fern came in is placed inside a ceramic pot, which is then placed into a clear plastic water basin. Because the plastic pot is sitting high inside the ceramic pot, when the Hydrofarm Thirsty Light notifies me it's time to water, I water it extensively so the water runs through into the clear plastic basin. It soaks the plant and then the extra water that sits in the clear plastic basin provides humidity but doesn't let the roots sit in water, which prevents rot. With the Hydrofarm Thirsty Light, it's thought free and finger dirt free maintenance.
