Excellent Hydrology Book,

This review is from: Hydrologic Analysis and Design (2nd Edition) (Hardcover)
I seem to refer to this book over and over. I am always searching for answers and this book seems to have them all! I am a water resources engineer and feel that this book is well organized, applicable to real engineering problems, easy to read, and well indexed.

I used this book for a graduate engineering hydrology course. The text covered the basics of surface water flow well enough (not spectacular), but there were numerous issues; namely incorrect answers to the exercises at the end of the chapter, numerous typos, and the information regarding groundwater is very poor at best. Also, the print quality was lacking, especially some of the graphs and maps in the back of the book, which you could barely make out. I prefer Physical Hydrology by Dingman, it is a much more competent book on the subject.

Excellent Source!,
This review is from: Hydrologic Analysis and Design (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
This book is an excellent source of information, especially for those who are interested in learning the fundamental aspects of surface hydrology. Dr. McCuen did a fantastic job conveying both the theoretical and applied nature of hydrology. An emphasis was placed on stochastic hydrology and statistical methods, which proved particularly useful when designing storm-water management facilities. Additional topics of importance include [but are not limited to]: channel routing, orifice/weir design, detention basin design, watershed delineation and hydrograph interpretation. Practice problems are included at the end of each chapter. The book is detailed, thorough, and comprehensive...highly recommended!

This books is hard to read because of the extensive and monotonous writing in addition to lacking variety of examples.
I took a semester of Hydrology Design, taught by Dr. Mc Cuen himself, in which he had to complement the lectures with numerous handouts with graphs, formulas, examples, and procedures that are not available in this textbook. You would be better off checking your University's Library database for other authors rather than purchasing this textbook.

A much needed book at a great price. In great condition at a fraction of the original price. Would certainly buy from them again.
