Book Description

1993
Hydrology covers the fundamentals of hydrology and hydrogeology, taking an environmental slant dictated by the emphasis in recent times for the remediation of contaminated aquifers and surface-water bodies as well as a demand for new designs that impose the least negative impact on the natural environment. Major topics covered include hydrological principles, groundwater flow, groundwater contamination and clean-up, groundwater applications to civil engineering, well hydraulics, and surface water. Additional topics addressed include flood analysis, flood control, and both ground-water and surface-water applications to civil engineering design.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Every avid handyman has one in his basement workshop. The indispensible combination tool that does just about everything from cutting sheet metal to pulling nails. This text for undergraduate courses in hydrology and hydrogeology is like that. Oversized and at 700 pages, it is a huge and comprehensive introduction. It has large, clear charts and illustrations, on this latter score particularly good ones of field operations. The price, more than reasonable, will have students rejoicing...The real genius of this all-purpose bottle opener and nail driver, however, is its organization...
- Peter Wild, Contributing Editor, U.S. Water News

This book is a very comprehensive introduction to hydrology. Designed primarily to serve as an undergraduate text, the book discusses virtually every aspect of hydrology. The book includes hundreds of pictures, figures and tables. There [is] a generous amount of case studies, lab exercises, and worked example problems. A diskette containing hands-on lab exercises on computer modeling is included. All these features combine to make this book an excellent choice for an introductory college text. In fact, the book's strongest point (stressing the application of theories and principles to real-world problems and applications with a strong focus on environmental issues) guarantees its use as a general reference on hydrology.
