5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional in depth to hydroponics
This book is not for the idiots how to guide crowd.
It covers all of the basics of hydroponics but is written at a college level. I have read 4 books on this subject and while all 4 are good enough to learn the basics; this is the first book I've read that left me with an understanding of why the author is recommending you follow his methodology...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tough Read for some!
This is an in DEPTH book on hydroponics. I want to grow some veg's and berries thru hydroponics, but you get the most involved system on the planet. You have temperature, bugs, plant food mixtures (hundreds of them), and then the equipment, fans, lights, greenhouse. As near as I can tell...it will cost you about $200 a tomato
when all is said and done. I must be...

This book is not for the idiots how to guide crowd.
It covers all of the basics of hydroponics but is written at a college level. I have read 4 books on this subject and while all 4 are good enough to learn the basics; this is the first book I've read that left me with an understanding of why the author is recommending you follow his methodology.

Pros:

Breadth of and choice of topics - The author covers the history of hydroponics, plant structure, how plants use nutrients during different phases of life cycle, alternative lighting systems, breeding and harvesting techniques, identification of pest and nutrient problems as well as the typical PH scale and lighting schedule that most authors discuss.

Practical step by step illustrations of alternative hydroponic setups as well as pros and cons

In depth analysis and explanations of topics analyzed

And lastly this author is intellectually curious and it comes across as passion for his subject

Cons:
This book is not a quick read - If you have limited interest or are looking to quick reference I would not suggest this book to you.

Also it is written at a college level and may frustrate those looking for simplicity.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have!!, June 28, 2011
This review is from: Hydroponics: Indoor Horticulture (Paperback)
after reading some of the reviews i thought it necessary to put my pennyworth in...

this book is and will become a classic in its genre. i have an extensive library on this and related subjects and this book out shines them all! it is a concise and highly educational read and i dare any expert or novice alike not to gain inspiration and knowledge from one read of this title, his experience in his profession cannot be denied and he represent a rarity these days.... a true expert on his subject matter.

have also read his other book which again represent another classic in its genre albeit a slightly difference subject matter the work and knowledge shared is second to none.

jeffrey winterborne stands alone, head strong, in a class of his own making, which in all honestly will be hard for any other to create, match or even parallel.
