Scientific but readable. Not a "how to" book.,

This book contains detailed scientific information but is clearly written and understandable. Though it wasn't what I wanted (I was seeking more practical how-to information) I kept this book as a reference. If I were to sign up for a college level class, this book is what I might expect for the required text.
