So, before I begin my review of this product, here's our background... our son who is currently 6 weeks has had to be sent to the hospital with gas pains so severe that the emergency room doctors were concerned that he might be trying to pass a kidney stone. Turns out he was allergic to soy, we had tried breast, standard formula and lactose intolerance formula. He had a negative reaction to all (including breast believe it or not, I went through tests also to determine what was in my milk even though I was on a mild diet.... cause was deemed later on to be for a substance need, our baby needed rice formula). So..... we tried just the rice formula with the children's mylicon with the VentAire bottles.... somewhat of an improvement, but our child was still needing to go to the doctor weekly for checkups without much success, our pediatrician would even call us daily to see how he was doing. Constipation was questioned, but was never an issue. Our breakthrough occurred when we took our son to a specialist appointment and the lady asking us if our son had excess gas since she noticed that Mylicon was listed as one of his meds. I stated quickly yes and told her of our ordeal. I was told that she was the grandmother of 5 children and a mother of 3 and had tried EVERYTHING to cure their extreme colic. The remedy they found, Hyland's colic tablets, Dr. Brown's bottles, and rice formula. After the doctor appointment I went to the store to give these products a try....... and it was like an angel had spoken to us. Our child could breathe again and was longer tense in the body, as he was making progress against constantly trying to push. I know that I'm being candid but I am hoping that this will help other parents and children that have been or will be in our situation. We are on day 4 of the product switch and WOW, he's a brand new baby! If these products can help a child who's been hospitalized, hopefully these can help yours as well. Pedialyte also works as well to help calm the tummy. I've been using tylenol every 5 hours (excluding when he sleeps) for the first week and have been continuing to use the Mylicon to help with the surface gas. Burping has never been an issue, but his burps and toots have become louder and more productive, sometimes just shifting him in our arms can help him to expel gas! I'll be making this post in numerous areas in hopes to help people.

Hyland's colic tablets, Dr. Brown bottles, Enfamil AR Lipil, infant's tylenol, gas drops is literally our formula to success.

I love colic tabs and gripe water. I swear by both. My doctor does not believe in gas drop so these are great alternatives. If your baby is crying and you know that they are fed, changed, and clean...they might just need this! This helps with pain too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, July 20, 2010
This review is from: Hyland's Colic Tablets, 125 tablets (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
I just started using this with my 5 week old last night. I could not believe the results. He has been screaming and having increasingly painful gas for the past two weeks. Our doctor said that the colic should wear down in another 2 weeks from now but that is a long time to see you child in pain. It has also been rough on my husband and I. These tablets are amazing they must taste sweet because he likes to lick them as I carefully help them dissolve in his mouth. He is so calm and finally sleeping soundly. I wish I had known about these sooner!

Before I gave my son these colic tablets, he would not sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time during the day. These seemed to almost immediately put him at ease. Sometimes I would have to repeat dose every 15 minutes as the packaging suggests, but it always helped him to feel better. I even gave them to him when he was older and having teething pains.

Do not buy Mylicon. I went through bottles and bottles, and it never helped the way the colic tablets did. I will be giving them to everyone I know at their baby showers for the rest of my life.

I used these with my first child, and just started using them with my second, both of which have stomach pain from excessive gas. These are easy to use (tiny tablets that dissolve, and can be used even with newborns), and you can feel the gas bubbles dissipate in their stomachs. Both of my children reacted well to these, which give enough relief to allow them to sleep better. I usually give them along with Mylicon drops, but these work faster, giving time for the Mylicon to work along with it. They have contributed to much happier babies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Improves baby's sleep!, October 18, 2010
By
This review is from: Hyland's Colic Tablets, 125 tablets (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
My baby can get cranky at night sometimes, and we start popping these little babies and sure enough, he falls asleep easier, faster, and stays asleep longer!!! I highly recommend these! I haven't seen any adverse reactions in my baby. However, when he was really tiny (1-2 months), it was hard to get him to take these b/c his mouth was always really dry and they didn't dissolve (and we were afraid he would choke on these) so we dissolved them in a tiny drop of water first before using a dropper to give them to him. Now that he is 4 months (and super drooly) these dissolve quickly and he even sucks on them (instead of spitting them out), so it is much easier now days to give them to him!

Pros:
Makes baby calm/mellow
Dissolve quickly when baby has enough drool/spit
Maybe helps a LITTLE with stomach issues
Baby falls asleep faster, easier, and stays asleep longer.

Cons:
Hard to get a tiny baby to safely dissolve these without using water.
Takes several doses (every 15 minutes) to start seeing results.

Overall I would gladly recommend these to any of my fellow mamas with a fussy, gassy, sleepless baby!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Contains Belladonna!!, October 10, 2011
This review is from: Hyland's Colic Tablets, 125 tablets (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
After some web research, my husband I discovered Hyland uses the toxic herb, Belladonna in its products. Belladonna has been used for centuries as a sleep aid but levels of the substance become deadly quickly! Scary, scary stuff!

[...]
The above article sited traces of the deadly plant found in Hyland's teething tablets, but it only stands to reason that they may be putting Belladonna in other products as well. My husband and I were desperate to help find relief for our son's colic. My husband came home from the drug store with Hyland's Colic Tablets, and we assumed they were safe since they were purchased OTC.

However, my gut told me to check it out when my 5-week-old son went from writhing in pain to practically comatose in my arms within seconds after receiving the Hyland's "remedy." After discovering the company's fondness for Belladonna, it all made sense to me. The packaging contains a special note: "If your baby has been crying or is very upset, your baby may fall asleep after using this product because the pain has been relieved and your child can rest." Weird statement and huge RED FLAG!

Please don't use this product. As a physicians daughter, I think this could be potentially very dangerous for your child. Repressed breathing is one of the side effects of the plant Belladonna. Shame on this company. Awful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for a mom, February 17, 2008
This review is from: Hyland's Colic Tablets, 125 tablets (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
I love homeopathic remedies because they are so simple to administer to babies and young children, and they are so safe. This particular one is for colic, which is the term that used to be the term for long bouts of unexplained crying. Today, most people assume the crying is caused by a stomach ache.

These colic tablets contain a homeopathic combination for the following conditions (from the Hyland's website):
* Colicky pains that are better from motion
* Restlessness and irritability
* Abdominal pains caused by gas
Which is all delivered in a little milk sugar tablet that tastes good. When my son was a baby, I made sure I had them close by.

I always give these, along with the Hyland's Teething Tablets, 125 tablets (Pack of 4) as baby gifts.

If you are new to homeopathic remedies, it is best if the remedy is not touched. So I simply tip the bottle over into the lid and then tip the lid into the baby's mouth, or a bit of water. It's also best if the baby doesn't eat or drink anything else 15 minutes before or after taking a homeopathic remedy.

If you are a new parent, I recommend you study the vaccine debate. My favorite DVD on the subject is Vaccines: What CDC Documents and Science Reveal. My two favorite true stories about a child that was vaccine injured, and luckily recovered are He's Not Autistic But...: How We Pulled Our Son From the Mouth of the Abyss and Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism.

These are just sugar tablets. Other than the placebo affect for the parent, and distraction effect for the baby, they do nothing.
