5.0 out of 5 stars One of the two best CDs in the history of the world!, February 17, 2007

I love this group! I have been listening to them since I was in high school in the late 60's, but Hymns I and II are the best CDs I've ever heard by anyone. I have listened to them so often that I have all the songs memorized (I knew them before, but now I know EVERY word). My sister who is 20 years younger than me agrees--so it's not just a generational thing! :)

If you like this sound (and have been in withdrawal since they stopped recording) you should also check out Annie Herring's solo efforts (like: "Wonder," [my favorite] "Glimpses," and "All that I am").

Lovers of the old Hymns of the Church need this in their collection. The unparalleled harmonies of this trio are enough to bring a tear to your eye. I can't pick a favorite, there are just too many.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly good hymn music., September 18, 2007

I used to own the cassettes but they all went bad, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the collection available online in CD form. 2nd Chapter of Acts has beautiful harmony and Michael Ward has an incredible voice. If you're looking for a good hymn collection, this is the one to get. You won't be disappointed in the quality of the performance.

The 2nd Chapter of Acts
Hymns Collection

The 2nd Chapter of Acts is a siblings vocal group that was a part of the Jesus Movement of the 1970's who made several classic lite `Jesus Rock' albums and who toured with the likes of Barry McGuire. Years later this group with the amazing harmonies began to release their Hymns albums (The three being gathered in this Hymns Collection release). Many of these Hymns are done in a traditional style while many others are not, but the entire collection is beyond excellent. This is a stunningly beautiful and inspirational set of albums. This is Highly Recommended.
This is a solid Five Star release.

Even after all of these years I have found little that can compare with the great passion and musical talent found in these two CDs of hymns. I am grateful it is still available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Hymns, Very Good Presentation, October 11, 2011

I was looking for some hymns with vocals but NOT chorales. I had heard of "2nd Chapter of Acts", but though I wasn't really familiar with their music style, I figured it would fit the bill and did it ever! This is an excellent selection of hymns that are arranged and performed very, very well. You can easily sing along if you want or just listen and contemplate the meaning of the words. If I could take back 1/2 a star I would only because I was/am a little disappointed that the instruments seem to be all electronic/synthesizer variety. Maybe this is standard "2nd Chapter of Acts" style, but using real strings, woodwinds, piano, horns, percussion, etc would've made this a CD for the ages. Even so, it is still outstanding. Highly recommended.

I had the cassette version of this collection. When it came time to upgrade to a cd, I looked around and listened to a number of hymn cd's, but opted for this one again in the end. Anyone who likes the 2nd Chapter of Acts will love it, but I think anyone who likes hymns will too. The harmonies are amazing. It sounds both traditional and modern at the same time, and it contains a lot of hymns.
