3.0 out of 5 stars Vocals need work...
The arrangements and instrumentals are excellent but the vocals need work.

'Be Thou My Vision' is a good example: The orchestration is superb, the arranger knows he (or she) is dealing with one of the great melodies, and treats it with real respect. The tin whistle solo is absolutely magical (or maybe it's a piccolo...) - anyway the orchestra sets a high...

5.0 out of 5 stars Music to my ears!, July 31, 2000
This review is from: Hymns: A Place for Worship (Audio CD)
4HIM delivers a wonderful gift to both the Christian music traditionalists and fans of contemporary Christian music. Few if any artists have attempted to bridge this gap, but their interpretations of the classic hymns of the church will please the ears of all. While respecting and honoring the melodies and words of the sacred songs the Christian church, they have added their own 4HIM "touch" to them that makes their interpretations both contemporary and uniquely 4HIM. Andy, Mark, Kirk and Marty seamlessly take turns with melody and harmony without detracting from the lyrics. An additional treat is the new melody for "It Is Well With My Soul" which doesn't take away the depth of emotion underlying this hymn, and dare I say it may even add to it. It's well and good to keep expanding the world of CCM but it's also good to look at the foundation of Christian music. Thankfully, this is what 4HIM has decided to do this time around. This is a CD you can feel comfortable recommending to your parents or grandparents while at the same time passing it on to a young person who may or may not be familiar with these hymns. There is nothing more to say except to say, "well done" to the guys of 4HIM.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly beautiful CD....., March 13, 2001

I have quite a few Christian music CDs and this CD is by far my favorite. During the past few months it has brought me such peace in times of trouble and pain by listening to the praises to God. Truly the Spirit of God surrounds you when listening to this CD. Such peace and joy come over me whenever I listen to 4Him Hymns. Thank you, 4Him, for this fantastic CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars For Hymn lovers old and new, April 13, 2004

This review is from: Hymns: A Place for Worship (Audio CD)
This CD has been a favorite of mine for quite a while. It is appropriate for just about anyone who enjoys Christian music and wants to listen to some hymns.

The songs are the ones you would find in your hymnal, including the basic tune. It is easy to sing along with, mellow enough to worship introspectively, but upbeat at the same time. There are some flourishes and such, but 4Him sticks to the way the composer wrote the song.

People who might enjoy this title:

The quiet worshiper-most of the tracks on the album are mellow enough that you could play them in the background while you meditate on the Word or spend time in prayer.

The reminiscer-All of the hymns on this album would be classified under the "oldies but goodies" that you won't usually find at a church that doesn't sing out of the hymnal.

The interested-do you go to the type of church listed above, but would like to learn some new (to you) hymns? This is a good place to start.

People who like 4Him-they've got another winner of an album!

*****Final Thoughts*****
This is an album that can be enjoyed by anyone who likes or is interested in hymns. Yes, its a pop group, but they don't warp the hymns to fit their style. They take their style and let it flow through the hymns. Whether you can't stand pop music, or you wish that hymns weren't so boring, this is the one for you!

I'm so glad God inspired this Group, and allowed them to share with us Jesus' glory and power. The songs are so well produced in a new fashion to reach all generations. The Solid Rock has been an inspiration all over the world and it brings back the essence of Christ. Congratulations to Jesus and 4Him!!!!

Contemporary Christian music can be patchy when carrying out a reprise of time-honoured traditional worship music... however, 4 Him has done a flawless job on this album. I have to say it is one of the best Christian albums I possess!

There is a huge variety of style (from straight ahead rock, to Celtic, to more traditional), and the production is excellent. More importantly, this is an album that puts God first; listen to it for just the musicality, or, better yet, listen to it and join 4 Him in praising the great God of the Universe!

The rendition and arrangement of "The Solid Rock" is imaginative and effective (my personal favourite), and contrasts well with some of the more mellow tunes on the album. Overall, a wonderful work, with an incredible foundation in traditional worship music with a contemporary rework. Well worth every cent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Old Songs for Today's World, November 30, 2002

I loved the special thought that went into the originations of the original music and lyrics. A cd for all the world and all peoples. I am of Irish decent and loved "Be Thou My Vision". I first heard this cd from the Youth Pastor at church. Then I had to get it. I'm 60 and have 7 grandchildren and like to be able to recommend christian music to them. This fit my bill. Thank God for them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best music of the kind!, April 11, 2002

This review is from: Hymns: A Place for Worship (Audio CD)
I'm absolutely amazed at "Place of Worhip", it's the first CD by 4 Him I've heard, but the strength of "Sacred Head Now Wounded" overwhelmed me. I think there should be more "strong" Christian music, not just because it introduces a change to the monotony, but because I really appreciate the musical depth and sophistication of the rock interpretations and I do think that corresponds to the profoundity and gravity of Christian subjests involved. Also, the nice, expressive male vocal of the piece I'm speaking of, appeals to me very much. The full scope of feelings could possibly have been expressed in no better way!

Congratulations!

God bless you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I would expect from these guys, only better, August 20, 2001

I'm not really a fan of hymns, however, these guys make these songs modern and worshipful at the same time. 4 Him is a great group for everyone...their music has such a variety that anyone would like their stuff. This CD is a new change of pace...worship music is kinda new for these guys, but it's a great CD to listen to overall--very soulful and powerful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Hymns with a new type flavor, January 17, 2001
This review is from: Hymns: A Place for Worship (Audio CD)
I have missed the old hymns so much. In the hymns there is a lot of doctrine that seems to be missing from the more contemporary Christian music. 4Him manages to blend wonderful the hymns in their own style. "Be Thou My Vision" seems to have more of an Irish flair.

The contemporary style appeals to those fans who like that style, yet yearn for the words from hymns.
