4.0 out of 5 stars pales in the light of true puppy
well, this certainly has a few good remixes of Skinny Puppy songs, but the sounds don't capture me as well as the originals do. However, i thought it was a good effort and couldn't rate it under four. Although it isn't orderable through Amazon as far as I know, I reccomend Dystemper, the new remix album, above this one.

This is what happens when you get a bunch of wanna be Industrial musicians together and ask them to cover songs of Industrial Gods.
Granted some of the artists on here are the real deal such as Mark Spybey, but then you got a bunch of Euro dance dorks such as Spahn Ranch, Electric Hellfire Club, and the like who don't even deserve to have a stab at a project such as...

What the heck happen, did Britney Spears' manager get the rights to Skinny Puppy intellectual property and decide it would be a good idea to collect the worst Industrial Spin off bands together and make a Skinny Puppy tribute album?!?!?
Actually a Britney Spears or NSYNC version might actually be an improvement.

Buy this USED, only if it is a must have for your collection. The Dead Voices On Air and the Download Track are worth the $1.60 at least.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not Skinny Puppy, July 24, 2005

This review is from: Hymns Of The Worlock - A Tribute To Skinny Puppy (Audio CD)
Ok, we all know this CD is not Skinny Puppy and as the CD says, "We will never see their like again." This CD is more like pop versions of their songs.

You do have to admit the Front Line Assembly remake of Dead of Winter is good, just for the fact FLA has Bill Leeb (one of SP's founders) and then the Download remake of Download has cEVIN Key (another member of SP).

So you really cannot dis the whole CD. It is a must own for collectors, just for the fact that members of Skinny Puppy are on the CD.

When I was listening, I first thought, oh my, is Dwayne Goettel rolling in his grave? But we will never know, they may actually like the CD - they changed the world of industrial music and who knows what they would be doing now! (I'm sure it wouldn't be the stuff thats on this CD though.)

If you have never heard the original tracks, make sure you buy Skinny Puppy CDs to hear the true sound of Skinny Puppy - it is still something that you have never heard - even in todays music.

"The thing with Skinny Puppy was, it was very 'f*ck off' music, 'you're not going to like this, so f*ck off.'" - Martin Atkins

2.0 out of 5 stars Just not the same, February 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hymns Of The Worlock - A Tribute To Skinny Puppy (Audio CD)
No one will ever capture the sound that Skinny Puppy produced over so many great years. This album proves this. It may have the same words but certainly not the same feel. The only song that closely resembles the anger captured by Puppy in the origional recordings, is the track produced by Leatherstrip. Yet, even this falls far short of expectations. This album is only too pay tribute to the true masters.

3.0 out of 5 stars if you love skinny puppy, you'll hate this, February 7, 2006
This review is from: Hymns Of The Worlock - A Tribute To Skinny Puppy (Audio CD)
A little background: This cd ended up on my computer. I listened to it, was disgusted, gave it a few more tries since i was bored, and deleted everything but dead of winter.

A good skinny puppy cover is like a cold fusion reactor, or a good doors cover. As of yet, none have been made. While it is interesting to hear download download itself, it is not very memorable to hear a progeny of spinoff bands attempt to improve upon their sole source of inspiration. What is produced is a lot of mumbling and structureless atonal mush, lacking the visceral emotion and entrancing rhythm that we have come to adore.

For an industrial cd, that merits no stars. For this cd compared to any other cd, including linkin park, three stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY INTERESTING, May 24, 1998
By A Customer

This definately a different take on some old favorites. Front Line Assembly covers one of the songs from the original Back & Forth Series 1. Probably the best tracks on it are Electric Hellfire Club's cover of Worlock with lotsa Charlie Manson samples, The Element's cover of The Choke, and Razed In Black's take on Assimilate.

This is not a Skinny Puppy album. Don't expect the classics as you know them, but it is interesting and is worth the money if you are obsessed with Puppy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poorly Titled, but fair remixes, March 22, 2002

This album is getting ripped to shreads and honestly it's time some gave it a fair shake. Okay, so it isn't Skinny Puppy, nor would I take it a a 'tribute' album. It is a remix album much like "Dystemper" (which also gets ripped into alot). If your a fan of Puppy and the more b-side/experimental side of them, as I am, than you might enjoy this album for that whole reason. I look at it as a tribute/remix album. This album is mostly good, with a few dull tracks. I wouldn't suggest picking it up at full price, but if you can get a discount than add it to your Puppy collection. I like it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Rip-Off Ceolpatra Tribute Album!, November 10, 1999

This is not what it seems! . This CD is pretty much a load of modern Skinny Puppy wanna-be's. The only reason I even gave it one star is because of the live Download cover and Leaetherstrip's cover of Testure. Other than these two songs the album is not that great. I think a lot more time and thought could have been put in to Hyms of The Warlock, but Cleopatra records wanted to make a quick and easy buck. Accept no immitations! Listen to the real thing!

Well, I've only listened to a small clip of this tribute album, thanks to RealPlayer, and I can already tell how much I would hate it. If you haven't had the sheer pleasure of listening to Skinny Puppy before, this isn't the way to go. Cleanse, Fold, & Manipulate is my personal favourite followed by Bites. The next best thing having lunch in the cemetary is listening to Skinny Puppy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Defenitley worth listening to. Skinny Puppy with a twist, February 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hymns Of The Worlock - A Tribute To Skinny Puppy (Audio CD)
This Album covers alot of Skinny Puppy tunes, All the artists who are on the cd have done a good job with the version of the songs. Just dont expect the true Skinny Puppy sound and feel. Seeing as Skinny Puppy is dead this is a must to ad to your collection of Industrial tunes.
