I always feel like 1 star and 5 star reviews are throw aways. They only seem to say if the thing worked or it didn't - doesn't help. Mine works, but not very well, and not very consistently.

When you purchase the full kit - The HyperJuice2, Pre-Modified Magsafe charger, Magic Box, Airline Adapter, DIY Kit, MagSafe->Magsafe2 Adapter, etc. - It comes in at 400.00, however, you do seem to get a lot of stuff and not just the battery. Cost isn't really a factor for me because it's a write off, but I can see it being a turn off.

It's all a little cumbersome, mostly because of the lawsuit from Apple about the magsafe patent.(forced HyperJuice to make the Magic Box). I don't necessarily mind cumbersome, but it really feels like a Frankenstein, with all the adapters, magic boxes, splices, tools and other things. It cheapens the overall.

The display on the battery looks nice, so does the battery itself. Despite the sleek look, it feels fairly delicate. The important parts I.E. the DC ports on the Battery are flimsy, ill fitting, and finicky. From the first moment I plugged the DC in/out cables in, I felt as though I was using the wrong cables because there was so much wiggle room. It wasn't simply a cosmetic defect - if there is any lateral stress on the dc out pin, you will lose power. It's an engineering issue, and I'm not sure if it will be fixed in the new generation of these. So for someone like me, who is integrating all their peripherals into a portable case (hence the need for an external battery), build quality and functionality are paramount.

Unfortunately, there aren't (m)any other options on the market. I'd rather go without, than have something unreliable taking up space.

This external battery far exceeded my expectations, I can charge my macbook, iphone and ipad all at the same time. On an international trip recently I charged all three devices and I still have not had to power the battery again, it has plenty of juice left for the next use. Note: You only need to buy a car charger adapter to use this device with a macbook. I use the "WeCharger Ultra Portable MacBook Super Fast Car Charger/Adapter". You don't need to modify your macbook charging cables or expensive aftermarket devices for this.

Wow, what a product. Charges your MacBook and USB-powered devices, and holds tons of "juice". No complaints other than the price, but no other product on the market exists that can match the quality and sheer power of this thing... highly recommended if you even have a suspicion that it would be useful in your situation. It also ships with two USB ports, which I didn't pay much attention to until my phone died on the go!

I got the HyperJuice and DIY Magic Box modification kit to be able to enjoy games during long flights. Following the guide step by step I cut the cable of my original Apple charger to connect the Magic Box.

When I finally connected to the battery to try out charging it charged for a short while and then quit. "Already done? Can't be." It turned out to be a loose connection. If I pushed gently to the side it started charging again.

The overall quality is poor plastic and cheap. The loose connection was just the final blow. I knew I couldn't keep it and I knew I had ruined my Apple charger including its warranty.

Returned both the Magic Box and the HyperJuice. Amazon's swift handling of that was the best part of this experience.

My advice? Don't buy HyperJuice.

I purchased this to charge a MacBook Pro, IPad Air, various IPhones, several smaller external batteries for "emergency" iPhone use, as well as a HyperDrive iUSBport2 Wireless USB Port Hub.

Just before departure--we decided not to bring the MacBook Pro but figured this external battery would come in handy--which it definitely did.

I take a lot of pictures and shoot a lot of video & this battery functioned flawlessly--absolutely as described. Specifically, if you travel with and rely on a MacBook Pro--it's a must have. If you are someone with a lot of power hungry USB devices (iPhones/cameras/peripherals) this will definitely ease any power limitations as a no-brainer source of juice. Honestly, I did not use it to it's maximum potential. It's purported to be able to recharge an IPhone 27 times--which I trust. Mostly--I was able to keep it charged up and ready to go. It has a sleek, aesthetically pleasing design. It had no difficulty passing TSA security whatsoever--and on one occasion I (accidentally) drop tested it pretty severely which didn't affect function at all. I didn't read the directions because I found it's use to be very intuitive except for one thing: If you charge it--afterwards the device must be deliberately turned off. The battery level indicator lights are useful.

I should mention that I also use this company's HyperDrive iUSBport2 Wireless USB Port Hub--which is awesome--and simply plugs into a USB hub to charge. Basically--the hub device gives an iPhone or iPad a wireless expansion slot, either memory card or portable hard drive. (I use both). I'm one of those persons who uses my iPhone's battery and (64 gig) memory to their absolute maximum practically every day--and these two devices complemented each other very well.
