This is very well made wetsuit.

My son is very lean and this suit was a little bit loose in some places but not too loose to be considered big.

We purchased this suit because my son started swim class and would get out shivering after every class. We thought this would help and boy did it do the trick. He wore it for his last class and the instructor commented afterwards that the suit must have really helped him because he was able to focus and do more things in the water than before. The material is not too thin and not too thick. My son is very lean and this suit was a little bit loose in some places but not too loose to be considered big. I think it will grow with him over the next year or so and is worth the money. I would recommend this suit for anyone that has a child that is lean and needing a bit more insulation in the water.

Also I am so glad that I read the other reviews before purchasing because the SIZE was just right based on the review and NOT the size chart that was given. My son is 6yrs old and weighs a little less than 50lbs. If I had gone by the size chart I think I was going to order a 6 or an 8 but ended up ordering a 4 based on reviews here on Amazon. Boy am I glad I did because I would have had to send it back. Very happy with this suit and glad I purchased it.

Thanks to everyone that reviewed this item before me because that really helped me make my decision and also helped with the sizing issue.

Do not go by Amazon's sizing. The manufacturer has size 4 as 40-50 lbs, 3'9" to 4'2"
size 6 is 50-60, 4'2" to 4'5" and size 8 as 60-75, 4'5" to 4'8". Otherwise product is good.

My kids take swimming lessons during the Winter in a covered up outdoor pool. I noticed that not only was my younger son shivering when he got out of the pool, his lips were blue! I wanted a suit that would be thick enough to keep him warm. This definitely did the job. It's thick and looks great on them. My kids put them on and jump around pretending they're power rangers.

As for the sizing, definitely go with the manufacturer's sizing chart and not Amazon's. Thanks to the previous reviewers which helped me pick out the right ones for my kids. Here is my contribution:

Son #1: 8-year old, 52" tall and 50-lbs (about 50-percentile on the growth chart), size 8 was a little too big for him but he seems okay with it. It'll give him many years to grow into. I think size 6 would probably fit him more snugly.

Son #2: 5-year old, 44" tall and 39-lbs (about 50-percentile on the growth chart), size 4 was a perfect fit.

Both my sons are on the slim side.

My 8 year old is very thin and has no body fat to speak of, so he gets chilled quickly when swimming. This helps; he still gets chilled, but somewhat slower. He's average height for an 8 year old. The size 8 was a bit loose, because he's so thin; he's comfortable in it but because it is loose, cool water gets in, decreasing its effectiveness. However I wouldn't have expected a perfect fit for such a slim kid. It also gives him room to grow into it so we should get two year's use out of it. We've only used it a few times, but so far it seems reasonably well-made and durable.

I'm ambivalent about the zipper in back. It means he needs help getting into and out of the suit which is a bummer. But I was worried that a front zipper would be uncomfortable laying belly down on a boogie board which he loves to do.

Amazon shows a size chart for size 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8. Suit does not come in size 1 or 3. Amazon shows size 2 as being for height 37 to 41 inches and 25-30 lbs. Hyperflex shows size 2 as 37 to 41 inches but 30-40 lbs. My grandson is super skinny, 40 inches and 33 lbs. I ordered the size 2 and it is just a bit big in the legs, but otherwise perfect. (His legs are skinny!) I will roll the legs and the suit should be perfect. I also bought a suit from Soles up Front (UK) and a Speedo, and I think the Hyperflex is better as it is thicker with longer legs.

We purchased this item in hopes that it would keep our child warm. In really cold water (i.e., <70 degrees F); not much is going to help and neither will this suit. Keep in mind that it is short sleeved and mid-thigh (i.e., not a full suit). However, in temperature zones that are moderately cool (70-80F), it does help keep our child warmer than without the suit.

Our child is 54inches and weighs about 55lbs; we purchased the size 6. It fits well, but since she is so skinny; their is 'extra' fabric around the mid-section. Nevertheless, a complete seal is formed on the legs. The neck area does not allow a complete seal, although there is an 'adjustable' flap that connects via velcro. Sometimes, excess water gets trapped at the legs (entering from the neck and getting trapped at thigh via the seal formed). Not too much of an issue and easily solved by breaking the seal and letting the water out. It is important to note that when the water does come out...it comes out warm...which means that the wet suit is doing its job!

The arm/shoulder area is made of a flexible material allowing full arm movement (although sacrificing some warmth due to the lack of neoprene). Our child is able to run/jump/swim easily in this suit. We have used it in both chlorinated pool water and salt water ocean. I was afraid that she would get too hot at the beach; but she never complained. The suit gives minimal buoyancy...not like an adult full size wetsuit. Construction seems good; although it is way too early to give a definitive opinion. Design-wise it is nice; makes your kid look like a mini-surfer.

Overall, for the $40-50 price point, this product is worth trying if you are looking for a flexible wetsuit to keep your child warm in moderately cool water (e.g., 70-80F).
