5.0 out of 5 stars One of my desert island CD., November 19, 1999

This review is from: The Hyperion Schubert Edition 6 / Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Graham Johnson (Audio CD)
Songs here are so charming that almost at the first hearing you are completely lured. They reflect the many facets of schubert's feeling about night, from safety homey, grandeur and splendid, to mystery and obscure, cold or warmth. Johnson's tone is just like the night---both laggish, seductive and mysterious. His interpretation "Die Sterne","Alinde","Des Fischers Liebesglueck", "Vor meiner Wiege" are very compelling and moving. An Excellent CD.One of my desert island choice.

I am sorry to confess that I had not been familiar with Anthony Rolfe Johnson until I heard this disk on the radio. I now intend to track down more of his disks before they disappear. (Sadly, he died this summer.) Play "Die Sterne" one time and you will have gotten your money's worth: it is a treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm voices, March 17, 2008
This review is from: The Hyperion Schubert Edition 6 / Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Graham Johnson (Audio CD)
Do you know what voices could link with night?? Johnson would try to tell listenners his expression on this disc. Night, we could imagine it represente love, peace and dream, that's what Schubert try to show in his songs. Johnson was famous of some early music, we often foubd his show in bach, handel's oratorios, He sagn Schubert with emotional voices, full of warmth, it still touch my deeply heart and deliver night's diversity mood in people.
I strongly recommand it to Schubert's lovers, you shouldn't miss this one.
