If all the joy and happiness in the world could be somehow be put into a box, it would look something like the picture above. It's a portable Super Nintendo. That's right, portable. Sit up in bed and play Tetris Attack. Long car ride? Play Super Mario All Stars. Boring funeral? Donkey Kong Country. Sorry aunt Esther, you will be missed. I will track down all the Kong letters in your honor.

All Joking aside, this thing is excellent. I had some technical questions about the unit, and when i called Hyperkin's costumer service line i got a real person who was very helpful. They are truly a company who goes the extra mile, and stands by there products. This is what i like about the Supaboy.

The display is a beautiful

The buttons and D-pad are crisp and responsive

There is zero input lag, when you push B Mario jumps instantly

You can hook it up to your TV and use the original Super Nintendo Controllers.

It comes with a rechargeable battery. A Nokia battery that can be replaced. Or buy a stand alone charger, a few extra battery, and swap them.

Here are the games i have tested and work.

Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island

Gradius 3

Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2

Super Mario All Stars & World. Same cartage.

Sim City

Mortal Kombat

Super Mario Kart

Tetris & Dr. Mario

Tetris Attack

Super Mario RPG

F-Zero

Star Fox

So in conclusion i love the Supaboy. Its so bad. The day it came in the mail was the best day of my life. Take that birth of my son.

Received in the mail a few days ago. I was really looking forward to this coming out. The picture quality is great, as is the controller and overall design of the system. Feels comfortable in your hand. It emitted a very obnoxious high-pitch noise when the system is powered up coming from the speakers, making the system almost unbearable to play without ear plugs. I seriously hope this was just a defect in mine, because if is I'd easily give this 4-5 stars. Battery seemed to hold a good charge for how little I used it. The charge light was erratic and flashing, and never indicated whether or not it was fully charged. Never tested the headphones (not included, but has headphone jack), controller ports, or plugging it into the tv, but I would assume they should be ok. Sent it back to Amazon in the hopes the next one is working better.

Well I ordered my Supaboy awhile ago and it arrive at my Doorstep pretty quickly! I was excited to get home and open this badboy up and I finally got it in my hands. I fell in love with this instantly and now i'll share my thoughts about the System.

The Unit: The unit itself, the Supaboy, is a very sturdy piece of work. It feels... complete with no rattling and everything. The design of the system closely resembles a huge SNES controller. It's BIG but lightweight and fits in your hands comfortably. However... there are slight problems with the machine. I have 3 complaints about the unit itself. The first one... isn't really a complaint but more of a minor pain to deal with that doesn't really effect the machine. The AC Power cord comes out from the top of the Machine and at times it gets in the way of putting in new games and what not. My second complaint is the D-Pad. It LOOKS like a normal SNES D-Pad however the thing is STIFF. It's sometimes really hard to maneuver the D-Pad if you're playing a game that needs to use every Direction like Contra for example. My last complaint is the Battery life. Fully charged the System only gives you about 2.5 Hours of battery life. It's kinda... Bad... However I am not a huge traveler but it would be nice to play with it off the charger every now and then.

The Games: I tried a lot of my games out and they all seems to work! Some of them worked first time I put them in and I haven't played some of them in ages! But nothing is perfect however and there is 1 game I COULD NOT get to work to save my life. Super Mario RPG. I became depressed right away because I heard the a lot of people got Super Mario RPG to work. And it's not my game because it works fine on my normal SNES. So.. i'm really unsure what to do. I did get it to work twice though but both times it was really glitched up and it gave a really loud static sound. I know it IS capable because the picture was working fine but i'm wondering if there is a secret to getting it to work. If you have a huge collection and you don't have SMRPG in it, then the Supaboy would be perfect for you.

The Performance: I heard that the Supaboy doesn't play very loudly and I enjoy my SNES music but... To be honest I didn't have a problem with the sound at all. It was a decent pitch of noise that I could enjoy so I didn't have much of a problem. The picture is crisp and clear and almost looks like if you were playing on a TV! You can always plug in headphones for louder noise and what not. Now I have heard that a lot of units were defective and made a loud screeching noise and it's safe to say that my unit did not have it at all! It does ave a very QUIET hum but it's so low I don't even notice it. So I give it thumbs up for the great performance!

The Uses: If you are going somewhere or hanging out with friends and you want to bring some fun... then getting this would be the answer! The unit is small so it fits in a backpack easily and pack in a few multiplayer games. All you gotta do is bring the small charger and the small video cords and you're all good. I don't really recommend playing it that long on large road trips unless the vehicle has a plug. If you don't have a TV then no problem! The unit itself has two controller ports on the front and your friend can plug a controller into the 2nd port and play with you! The port itself is away from the buttons slight and plugging a controller into the port doesn't get in the way that much but it is a little close. One of my problems is that the player 1 controller port ONLY works on the TV so you can't plug in a Player 1 controller to avoid using the crappy D-Pad on the System which kind of makes me sad but if i'm going to play with friends at a house then it's no big deal. But to cut to the chase, the unit it great for bring to a friend's house and playing some SNES games together without lugging around the big SNES.

In conclusion, I am satisfied with my purchase of the Supaboy but there are somethings wrong with it that make the System lack a little but nothing is perfect I suppose.

I leave this item with a 3\5. I knock one point entirely for Super Mario RPG not working because that alone is what made me want to buy a Supaboy... To play Super Mario RPG anywhere. And the other point for it's small problems it has. But overall it's a fantastic device!

I will highly recommend it if you are looking to get a New SNES and you DON'T have Super Mario RPG in your collection. But then again like I said... there could be a trick to making it work and i'm hoping there's a way to fix it. I hope this review helps for people if they are on the edge to buy it or not.

~MarioMan70

A BIG HUUUUUUGE EDIT (READ THIS): For some reason now my Unit wants to play Super mario RPG! I am so shocked but Super Mario RPG works perfectly! I changed my Review to 4 Stars now! I am very excited to see it work!

5.0 out of 5 stars SupaBoy is SupaCool!!!, December 25, 2011

This review is from: Hyperkin SUPABOY Portable Pocket SNES Console (Video Game)
This is the best thing to happen to Nintendo portables since the creation of the GameBoy. There a three main reasons why this system is outstanding. First - The 3.5 inch screen is vibrant and crisp with excellent resolution. Second - It plays all SNES cartridges with excellent control. (A portable SNES!! That should be enough!!) Third - It can hook up to your TV when you want to play on a bigger screen and you can use SNES controllers like a regular SNES console. All together a great way to spend a few hours.

There is one downside - the speakers are crap. The volume doesn't turn up very loud. But honestly, that is not a very big concern.

I was afraid about this product, but in this point I can recommend the Supaboy, the machine works great, the only thing is with the sound,it have a little "bip", very annoying. The screen quality can be much better but is ok. I already played these games: Super Mario World, Mortal Kombat and Donkey Kong Country, they works normal as the same way as the old console.

You can't call me anything but a fanatic when it comes to the SNES. It's what I grew up on in the early 90's and I've never really moved on. When I discovered the SUPABOY I couldn't but giggle a little and buy one. It was one of those purchases where I refreshed the 'shipping tracker' about every 45 seconds, like the boy on a road trip--are we there yet? In the end I went to my local USPS and picked up the package at 8:30 before they loaded it on to the truck; the guy at the counter grumbled and said it was a onetime thing, totally worth it.

The Hyperkin itself was well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. I had seen a video where a reviewer's unit came with some loose plastic rattle in the cartridge slot; this was not the case with my unit. The hyperkin itself is large, it's been a while since I've handled a Gamegear but I'd say it's the same size, if not a little thicker. But it's comfortable and the weight is right. I was somewhat worried about the weight myself. I don't like things to be too light, as that is an indication of poor material selection but with the size of the SUPABOY I could certainly imagine it being too heavy. It's perfect, heavy enough to give the impression of some quality and light enough to be comfortably played.

It works very well. I had seen no mention of how the TV/Controller Out jacks actually work on any review so it was a concern to me as I consider this an important feature. Well here is the skinny: it's all about the A/V Out jack. When there is nothing connected to the A/V Out, the controller ports on the console won't work and all you can do is use the built in D-Pad and buttons. However, if you plug in the A/V Cable, then you can use a separate controller on the device. I found that the unit doesn't care if it's actually plugged into a TV, so it is possible to play the SUPABOY using it's built in screen with a separate controller, or two. This was a big deal to me, as I wanted to take it to work and play co-op games with my buddies using the built in screen, glad it worked out.

The screen itself is very nice. Now I want to elaborate on this. It's no OLED or HD screen, however with SNES games this isn't necessarily a problem. 16-bit games were designed with a low resolution display in mind. When the display gets too sharp some of the sprites look silly. They were created to be blended a little. The HYPERKIN's screen displays SNES games exactly how they would have looked on a TV contemporary with the SNES so games look good--they look like how I remember from my childhood.

The controls are stiff. I get the impression they will soften with use but I'm not sure yet. I don't dislike the stiffness of the D-Pad on the SUPABOY, but I do think I play precision games (Earthworm Jim, Jungle Book, Killer Instinct, etc) better with an actual SNES controller. I wouldn't consider this a fault, the D-Pad seems very rugged in its stiffness and I do think it will get better with use.

Now the high-pitch noise everyone is talking about. Yeah, it's there. I hear it, especially when I put the device right up to my ear. From a normal playing distance it's not very noticeable. In my living room when I'm holding the console on my lap I don't really hear the whine. I think this is going to come down mostly to how sensitive the user's ears are. If you are very sensitive, I'd bet that the whine is going to bother you; for me, I don't really notice it. And it does go away when something is plugged into Audio Out.

Well, that about wraps 'er up. If you have any questions post on the comments and I'll do my best. Honestly, I just love the SNES and want to encourage the sales of any device like the SUPABOY to keep these products coming.

This is a great little system! I have a collection of about 60 or so Snes games that I hardly touch. This is mostly due to my workspace and time I don't have to sit down and just use all my old carts. Owning this new system makes it actually worth owning all the old carts! The only reason i didn't just use emulation is because I already have all my favorite games, just doesn't feel the same. The Supaboy allows me to sit working on my computer and take a break to play some Kirby Superstar without having to sit and unplug my xbox or whatever else.

Cons - The only con really is the high pitch sound coming from the speakers. You do get used to it but its there, you can basically numb out to it(like old TV sets). All of the systems have this problem from my understanding. Other than that the screen can blur some of the pixels together a bit. Like I was playing Chrono Trigger and I couldnt really make out the line difference between the character's eyes and their skin. Blends the pixels. But overall it looks pretty good. Its no OLED though.

my unit has the following issues with hyperkin support being unresponsive for a week now:
- controller port 1 doesn't work at all
- lots of dust particles behind the screen
- sound issues (like everyone else)

stay away from this product until they fix their quality issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing in my life ever, February 24, 2012

This review is from: Hyperkin SUPABOY Portable Pocket SNES Console (Video Game)
I left for college in 2011, and had planned on bringing my SNES with me. Sadly, about two days after moving in, the console broke after nearly 20 years of faithful service. The SNES has always been my favorite console, and when my room mate showed this system to me, I almost died of happiness. I've read some of the other reviews here, and let me just try and point out some things others have not.

First of all, I was worried about getting this system because people complained about a "high pitched humming noise" coming from their system. From what I understand, the units that did this were the first ones ever made, and slightly flawed. At the time of this review, I believe that there are none of these units left. They have been replaced with higher quality ones. The unit I received makes no hum at all.

Secondly, a lot of people say certain games don't work for them on this system, the most common one being Super Mario RPG. I believe this might also be a problem with the first units, as mine has no such problems. I've been able to play every single game I own on this system, including Super Mario RPG.

If you're afraid of getting this thing for those reasons, like I was, I'm going to tell you to go ahead and get it. There was nothing wrong with mine at all. I have nothing negative to say about the system, it's just wonderful in ever way. The only reason I stopped playing it to type this review is because it's charging right now. If your system does somehow have a humming noise or some other defect when you get it, you can return it for a new one from the second shipment. From what I've heard, the people who sell this have very good customer service and will help you get a new model.

I'd give this thing a 10/10, best console in the world. I already was in love with my SNES, and now I have a new one that I can take and play anywhere.

This works great with the games we have. I have a few more to test, but have tried on Kirby's Avalanche, Super Mario All Stars, Legend of Zelda Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Pilotwings, and a few others. Many more to test. It would be great if this were available in an NES and N64 versions!
