Product Description

The Hyperwear SandBell free weight combines strengths from some of the most popular pieces of fitness equipment. Use the Hyperwear SandBell in place of a medicine ball, slam ball, dumbbell or kettle bell and prepare to work muscles you didn’t even know existed. The active, shifting movement of the sand challenges stabilizing muscles in your core. When working out with the Hyperwear SandBell, you will engage hand- and wrist-gripping muscles that are typically not activated and strengthened. The dynamic SandBell weight fires more muscle burning more calories giving you more results in less time. Another advantage of this product lies in its safety for you and your floors. On a slick floor you can use the SandBell for a variety of ab coaster and glide or sliding core exercises. The outer sand disc shape, made of durable, stretchy neoprene, contains a leak-proof core that can be easily emptied and filled with dry play sand. Dry washed all purpose sand is recommended, which can be obtained at home improvement stores.. US Patent 8,622,877 B2. SandBell is a registered trademark.

I liked it, but didn't love it. I bought the sandbells to throw some variety into my exercise classes. The shifting sand makes using these a great workout.

Pros: I like the fact that they come empty and you can fill them yourself. Saves on shipping.

They are tough, I was skeptical at first about how durable they were, but after putting them through a few bootcamp classes they held up quite nicely.

Cons: The manufacturer said they may leak a few granules, however, both of the sandbells I bought leaked dust everywhere. It came out of the seams on the edge of the sandbell.

The 'Ngazzle' (pronounced nozzle, how you fill the sandbell up) seems to keep working its way out of both of the sandbells I bought, I haven't found a solution to fix this yet.

Overall: Despite the subtle leaking of dust, I probably will buy more of these. If you use this product in an environment that isn't nitpicky about keeping everything clean all the time, these are a great addition to your workout!

These things are great. Ok face it dumbbells may be the best, but they have their limits. Weighted Bars, Kettlebells, Medicine balls and of course Dumbbells are all great tools and each have their own little speciality but SANDBELLS let you do things none of these other great tools will. The various grip techniques that you can do with Sandbells can never be done with the other tools. For those of us who run a keyboard and mouse for a living hand wrist and grip are very important things, just as they are with many other professions and sports. So Far I have the 2,4,6,8,10,12 and 15lb versions but plan to purchase the heavier ones as well. Filling them cost about 7 bucks and a little time, a funnel is almost necessary but I had one. There were no instruction or recomendations on exactly to close them up but common sense did. For the record roll up the fill spout/neck and tuck it in the cavity where it comes out. This seems to work fine and I have had no spills. It is easy to open them back up and add or subtract more sand. I have used these as a replacement in the same moves I would do with the other tools, and found that I seem to feel more workout in my hands and wrists. This is what I expected and wanted. I have also used them on a rebounder and they are good, you do have to try n get em to hit flush and not on the outer seem or they seem to bounce akwardly(not necessarily a bad thing). I prefer these to medicine balls with handles because the grip variations with SandBells are better. I haven't had them all that long yet but they seem durable enough and they are a great addition to my workout tools. The versatility of these SandBells will surely bring a new dimesion to anyones workout routine and they don't hurt if you drop them on your foot.

The sandbell is a great product. I purchased the 10lbs and 20lbs version. Basically, it is a heavily stitched stretchy neoprene that you fill sand in. So far, I've been using them for the following exercises:

1. One-handed throw and catch - I do this to train my grip strength and it really burns my arm

2. Weighted sit up

3. Weighted side plank - when doing side planks, I lift the sandbell to form a T.

4. Slams

5. Side throws

6. Additional filler weights for my sandbag exercises

I've been using the sandbells twice a week for about a month already. I personally haven't experience any sand leaking out during my training.

My only gripe is the fact that the sandbells DO NOT come with a funnel. I wasn't aware of this. I didn't have a funnel at home that was deep enough. I ended up ordering one from amazon:[...]. Note, you have to cut the bottom of the funnel a little bit as the opening is too small and the sand would take forever to come out. No big deal, I just have to wait for a few more days.

Let me just clear up a few things first:

1) It does not leak

2) Your gonna need a funnel to fill it

3) The material that it is made out of seems indestructible

Good things:

- Shifting Sand causes muscle confusion as you constantly have to correct for the shifting center of balance ---> more work and better training

- No handle means that you are working on your grip strength and forearms with every exercise

- Soft and not dangerous and very comfortable to carry and throw around

Bad Things:

- Kinda expensive (I am think it is worth it and I will be buying more)

- seems like it would be hard to empty so make sure you choose your sand right the first time (although I haven't tried it)

I like the sandbells. It's a great idea but they will wear out over time. at 18 months I have to replace a few because the outside edge covering cracks and spits allowing sand to leave the sandbell.
Do not buy pre-filled sandbells. The sand used is very coarse and abrasive. It will wear a hole in your sandbell fast. Buy white silica sand. It's an extra dollar or two per 50 pounds but it very fine and less abrasive and has no dust. Someone bought me a 50 pound pre-filled sandbell and it developed a hole in less than 6 months. I've had all my other sandbells that I filled with silica sand for a year before I got the 50 pound sandbell and they showed no signs of holes.
I really enjoy using them but the fact they wear out after less than two years has me considering other equipment options.
I did contact Hyperwear about the worn out 50 pound sandbell and they told me I needed to get the original owner to contact them. He tried several times and did not get a response. So not sure how good the warranty is?
