1.0 out of 5 stars Gross generalizations, huge assumptions and typos, January 18, 2006
This review is from: The Hypnobirthing Bundle for Happy Hypnomoms and Blissful Hypnobabies (Audio CD)
Save your money. I ordered this because of all the glowing reviews I had read. I was astounded with how poorly written the book is. The author makes wild assumptions about "childbirth myths" detailing (I'm assuming) catholic views of Eve and Mary. She attacks and generalizes the medical profession. Even after these and other unsupported claims I thought I could still use the relaxation exercises, but when she said that when the fetus kicks and moves it's because the mother or parents are experiencing stress and tension I was absolutely appalled. The fetus moving is a good sign of normal cognitive development, not something parents should try to subdue or about which they should feel guilt. I can't support something so utterly uninformed...especially for $60.00. It would be nice to be able to purchase products that balance "alternative" and "conventional" birthing practices.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good if you have anxiety, but there's better for relaxation, January 1, 2006
This review is from: The Secret Realized (Audio CD)
While this may be a good package for people with specific anxieties, or prior bad experience with giving birth, I find the Marie Mongan Hypnobirthing much more effective from a relaxation and hypnosis point of view.
It takes Michelle Leclaire 72 pages of self analysis tips and exercises (in a book of less than 100 pages) to start talking about and explaining hypnosis.
I also found that the explanations of the fear-tension cycle are not as clear and straightforward as Marie Mongan's. All in all, the Marie Mongan bundle worked much better for me - at a fraction of the price of the Hypnobirthing bundle.

See new edition with new cover available here on Amazon. I also had a phone consultation with Dr. Leclaire for some extra pre natal support. It is amzing how easy it is to think healthy thoughts when you learn how.

5.0 out of 5 stars EVery mom should use this!, September 6, 2010
This review is from: The Hypnobirthing Bundle for Happy Hypnomoms and Blissful Hypnobabies (Audio CD)
I wanted a non-medicated birth because as a science geek I did my research when pregnant and came to understand that epidurals contain powerful drugs that DO get into the baby's blood stream and DO affect newborns in significant and not fully understood ways. After my research I knew that I wasn't willing to risk my baby's welfare for temporary pain relief. I had also used self-hypnosis for sports performance in the past and knew it worked, so I decided to try it. The hypnobabies homestudy course really worked wonders for me.

In some ways the thing I liked most about Hpynobabies was that it doesn't dictate that your labor will be a certain way or that you have to use certain techniques. Like several other reviewers I found that the tapes were incredibly useful at some parts of labor (during early labor and transition) but that I just turned them off when it was time to push because I wanted to be fully present and follow my gut feeling about what to do. I also found that the descriptions of how it would feel were very accurate sometimes -- and not at all at other times! But even when things didn't go as planned I felt that I had been provided with the tools to handle things with serenity and confidence and have as fast and easy a labor as was physiologically possible. In the end (because my water broke early and I had several days of exhausting 'pre-labor' before things kicked into gear) I had a long tough slog that required great endurance and tested me to the limit. But from the moment when I took the leap of faith, set my anxieties aside and truly started USING those self-hypnosis techniques I can honestly say it was pain-free. Or more accurately it was good pain. The thing no one explains to you about birth beforehand is that normal birth pain is not pain like breaking a leg or cutting yourself. It's pain like stretching a muscle -- except about a thousand times more intense. And just like when you stretch correctly, it IS possible to relax into the pain instead of cringing and tightening up. This program gave me the tools to do that -- to the extent that I can honestly say I didn't truly feel "pain" even during a labor that qualified as a difficult one by any objective measure.

One caveat though: get a doula!! Anyone who wants an unmedicated birth should get one. In the past it wasn't as necessary because there were more doctors and nurses who knew what normal unmedicated birth looks like. But for most women today it means going into a hospital setting where the nurses, doctors and other patients will ALL treat you like a crazy person for not wanting an epidural and tell you again and again that you'll give in when the pain gets too bad. They don't know what they're talking about, of course. But it's hard to remember that when they're wearing the uniforms and you're panting and groaning through contractions! You NEED your own professional, a doula, to reassure you that you're not crazy and to provide the kind of old-fashioned support that nurses are no longer trained to give -- and don't have time for anyway. Your husband is a key member of the team, but he has a different job, and it's too much of a burden to ask him to nurse you as well as provide emotional support. For what it's worth I think that goes for Bradley birth too. For every woman who swears by it I've heard five who resented their husband trying to 'coach' them through preplanned "stages" of labor that had nothing to do with what their actual labor was. This is not to say that program isn't a great one. But it's still not a substitute for having an experienced WOMAN there who's actually ben through it and can coach you based on first-hand experience, not just second-hand knowledge. Men -- husbands and doctors alike -- just can't give you that "I've been where you are and I KNOW you can do it" confidence boost.

Bottom line: every labor is different. It can be truly painless when things go smoothly -- and it can be very painful if things don't go smoothly. But a good program can remove the additional psychological fear that many women suffer from on top of the physiological reality of birth. And it can also give you is the tools to handle even a difficult birth to the best of your abilities. For me the Hypnobabies course truly met those needs and was a real godsend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly connected and anxiety-free!!!, April 3, 2006

This review is from: The Hypnobirthing Bundle for Happy Hypnomoms and Blissful Hypnobabies (Audio CD)
This book helped me truly become connected with my baby! I was very nervous about being pregnant, because I had had 2 miscarriages prior. Even though the doctors assured me it was going to be a normal pregnancy...I had anxiety about the pregnancy and the impending delivery as well. The CD's kept me focused, relaxed and connected. Even in the labor room, I followed some of the excercises and was able to have an anxiety-free birth. I highly recommend this 'bundle'.

We used the first edition with our first baby with great enjoyment, peace, and success (a completely natural birth). This second edition is even better - I adore the "Creating Comfort Within" CD! Since I am now in my 38th week, I am practicing with my labor/birthing from the "Inside/Out" CD. The voice, music background, suggestions are simply wonderful. The book and pregnancy healthplan and how to alter your fears and support-person guideline, are exactly what I need...whether it's my first or second birth. The price is a bargain considering all that I received. My ob/gyn says I was one of, if not THE calmest, patient he ever had. I feel even calmer the second time around. Thanks for the easiest, safest, and original childbirth program! I love your site.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT Disappointed, April 4, 2005
This review is from: The Secret Realized (Audio CD)
It appears that the last reviewer does not understand the CD with the 3 different tones of voice. There is a purposeful change in the tone and speed of voice after initial relaxation on the "Hypnosis for Pregnancy" CD. Part of hypnosis is novelty and re learning. This CD follows scientifically tested data for accessing different parts of the brain for learning, a technique that is very effective. The CD for labor, to be played at 39 weeks, is all about relaxation. If you want to only relax during pregnancy after you listen to the "Hypnosis for Pregnancy" CD at least once a week you may also use the CD in Meditations for Pregnancy. This book is a must for every pregnant mother. It is a lovely book of prenatal mothering and bonding with a relaxing "Birthing from the Inside" CD included for only $14.95 (for both book and CD, available here at Amazon). The DVD was done by a professional Hollywood documentary film crew and it has received excellent reviews. The music CD was done in a sound studio by professional musicians and is wonderfully healing and does not stop and start but flows beautifully. N.D. the reviews that are not good are given by people who are pushing other products by trying to downgrade this one. This is dishonest and non peaceful business and we do not agree with these tactics. Dr. Leclaire O'Neill teaches professionals and pregnant couples throughout the U.S. and Europe and she has always been told that her voice is very calming and soothing. Dr. Leclaire O'Neill created the word hypnobirthing and The Hypnobirthing Method. Many have tried to copy her, however, they do not have an understanding of the field of Mind/Body medicine that underlies her work. Our Mission Statement is "bringing peace to the world one baby at a time." We shall continue on this path. For more information please see www.leclairemethod.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST BIRTH POSSIBLE!, April 1, 2006
This review is from: The Hypnobirthing Bundle for Happy Hypnomoms and Blissful Hypnobabies (Audio CD)
I am delighted with the entire bundle. The book is a complete Mind/Body New Medicine program with hypnosis. The work sheets for how to change your unhealthy beliefs and the pregnancy, post partum health plan are magical. The 3 cds are beautifully done.Dr. Leclaire has a wonderful, natural ,relaxing, caring resonance to her voice and the background music is delightful.
I listened to the Creating Comfort cd throughout my entire pregnancy and started to play the labor cd,Birthing From the Inside out as instructed at week 38.The music only cd,Babies Love Baroque,I used throughout pregnancy, especially when driving, and then during labor. I now play it while breast feeding.
My sweet little girl latches on much better with the music she heard all through her fetal life.
This is the only complete childbirth program created by a professional woman,PhD,RN and clinical hypnotherapist.I highly recommend this bundle.
