I thought some of the concepts in the book were good, but it's really disappointing it doesn't come with the CDs, which apparently are necessary for this book to work! It is false advertising that this book can even help you at all, unless you are willing to shell out extra $$$ for the CDs!!

With this hypnobirthing book and mp3 I was able to have such a pleasant birthing experience. It really changed my outlook and I feel lucky to have had such an easy drug free birth. I listened to the MP3 for 2-3 months everyday. and I had the headphones on and listened to the mp3 over and over during labor and the birth. The voice is calming and relaxing and really helped me relax. I didn't talk to the doctors they just let me listen to my headphones and I had such a smooth, relaxed labor and birth. I feel really lucky to have found out about hypnobirthing - and I tell every pregnant woman I know to try it.

This book along with 2 of the wuthor's audio CD's were of immense value to me, my husband, and the 2 sons I gave birth to using Dr. O'Neill's methods. I was able to have a stress-free and pain-free birth without an epidural and I think that's unbelievably amazing coming from someone who was very scared and nervous about her first pregnancy. My husband said it was the perfect 'bonding tool' for us, as he knew virtually nothing about childbirth at the start, but it helped us communicate more, he related to me more...and because we shared it together, he felt more bonded with our son from the beginning. I highly recommend this author's books and audio CD's. A friend of mine who took Dr. O'Neill's weekend workshop/class in Southern California and loved it, introduced me to her books and I can honestly say that I can now recommend them wholeheartedly too!

Wow. I really had no idea about what hypnobirthing was, in fact, I had many misconceptions about what hypnosis was in general. After having a very rough first pregnancy (nausea for 8 MONTHS), I wasn't sure I wanted to have more children because the experience was horrific and I was in and out of the hospital often for dehydration and couldn't keep food down. A friend of my sister recommended this book to me. After reading it and listening to the CD, I felt more confident and excited about getting pregnant again. When I eventually did get pregnant - I religiously practiced all of the excercises and even got my husband on board. Being pregnant with my second child, I had very minimal nausea for the first 8 weeks and then it was smooth sailing from there. I was happy, joyful, positive, and actually enjoyed being pregnant. I would recommend this to women who have had difficulties in the past and/or if you are fearful or anxious about the 'big day'. My husband even said that it really gave him a new persepctive on having a child and it helped him be calm and collected in the delivery room. I truly believe now in the power of the MIND over the BODY.

As a certified doula I can wholeheartedly recommend this hypnobirthing program! If you take the time to practice Dr. O'Neill's methods, you can release your fears and anxieties and embrace the peaceful pregnancy, birth, and postpartum that you desire and deserve. I have introduced this program to over 15 of my clients and it not only makes a difference for them - but it helps me, help them. Of the 15 clients that used this method, only two ending up choosing an epidural and the others had a seemless natural birth that they could have never previously imagined having. Regardless of whether you are having a C-section or an epidural, this program truly puts your head and heart in the right place and prepares you for the joy that is pregnancy and the wonder of bringing your baby into the world on that special day.

My primary reason for reading this book was to address some anxiety I had about giving birth - I was frightened about the prospect of the severe pain involved and it was my first child. Not only is this book filled with all the latest applications and philosophies of mind/body medicine, but there is also a free CD "comfort & birthing from within" that comes with it and it is very soothing and relaxing, and it helped me truly apply the techniques in the book. After following Dr. Leclaire Oneill's method, I felt confident, strong, and relaxed right after my water broke and throughout my 6 hour labor! In fact, I actually did NOT have an epidural and my husband was able to remain calm and assist me - because I made HIM read the book too! I then gave the book to my sister-in-law who used the method with her 3rd pregnancy, and she said, "I wish I had known about this with the first one!"

I was really excited about this book, since I have friends who have really benefited from hypnobirthing during labor. But I was extremely disappointed in this book. It's basically an advertisement for buying any number of CDs that are produced by the publishers/authors. And without the CDs the book is useless. But what really put me over the edge is that they made the claim that if you use an epidural your child will have a higher incidence of drug abuse! And, if you allow yourself to feel out of control and feel severe pain, you have a greater chance of having suicidal thoughts later in life! Of course, this "research" is not given a source or any type of scientific back up. Nothing like trying to put the fear into you to buy their BS!

I bought this book to help me prepare for natural child birth and made it a couple of chapters and lost interest. The book was a bit too granola for me. But that's just my opinion. This book could work for someone else. It did suggest to use visualization while in labor, and that technique helped me, but that it the only thing I took from this book. So those couple of chapters helped, but I probably didn't need to buy the book to find that out.

This book wasn't that helpful to me. It's an ayurvedic approach to pregnancy, from what I can tell- which is a little too new-agey to me. I like to read points that are a little more backed up by research. I don't find it that useful if it's just someone's hunch of how things probably are. The book reminds you of common sense things like to eat well, exercise, play a little, be held by your husband. These are nice reminders. I like how she encourages you to bond with your baby while your baby's still unseen- sing to your baby etc. But overall there was a lot of spacey stuff that didn't appeal to me. Sometimes I didn't even know what the author was talking about at all. Also, the book keeps referring to classes and tapes that aren't included, as if you have to buy more to really understand. If a book talks about a cassette you should use every day, it should include the cassette- otherwise the book is just promotional material for other products.
