A note of caution . . .,
By Katy Kennedy "girl about town" (Austin, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hypnosis to Help You Sleep Deeply (Hypnotic Empowerment Series for Self-Awakening) (Audio CD)
I was looking for a hypnosis CD to help ease my sleepless nights, and I chose this one based solely on its high ratings on Amazon. In general, I feel like I'm pretty susceptible to hypnosis. If someone talks to me in soothing tones about floating blue orbs that emanate magical auras of sedation, I'm out like a light.
That said, I couldn't take more than five minutes of this woman without feeling agitated and unpleasantly alert. Why? I couldn't even focus on what she was actually saying because her voice was so abrasive. I mean, it's not a terrible voice for someone delivering a business presentation, but it's not the kind of voice that has any business hypnotizing a person to sleep. I can't pinpoint the exact quality of her speech that makes it so unpleasant to me. It's not very gentle, for one thing. For another, she doesn't have that metrical lilt that most professional hypnotists use, the kind that lets you fall effortlessly under the spell of its rhythm. And third, while I'm not usually bothered by this, I suspect my distaste for her voice may have something to do with how distracting I found her slight regional accent. So I'll caveat my criticism with a personal disclosure, which is that I grew up in the South, and my ears are particularly attuned to the vaguest hint of a Northern accent. It could be entirely possible (and probably is, based on the many high reviews) that most others aren't as sensitive to that accent and wouldn't find this woman's voice as distracting as I did. But if, like me, you prefer a more neutral and calming voice to bid you adieu as you depart for dreamland, you might want to keep searching for a different hypnotist.

I stumbled across this gem in my maddening search to sleep more deeply and drown out my noisy neighbors. I have been using these CDs for 2 weeks and I can already see the results. I am sleeping more deeply and can't wait to see how much more I will progress. I'm not at that point of "perfection" or completely getting all of its benefits but that's only because this is just the end of 2 weeks. I am slowly working my way up to a full 8 hrs. Ms. Decker's suggestions are great for getting a racing mind to relax and focus on positive affirmations. I've suffered from anxiety and insomnia for years but now after only 2 weeks, I am "relaxing & feeling comfort" not only at night but during the day as well. I even find myself repeating her affirmations during stressful situations-and it really works! I finally feel like someone has given me the keys to turn the switch of my racing, anxious mind to "off" and get some much needed deep sleep. I have noisy neighbors and it is helping me to remain in my own world of nirvana despite what is going on around me. Priceless! Oh and the best part of all is that she was even kind enough to help me with further questions I had on how to improve my specific problems. I can't say thank you enough!!

Too much-not enough,
This review is from: Hypnosis to Help You Sleep Deeply (Hypnotic Empowerment Series for Self-Awakening) (Audio CD)
Well I have used this product many times without any succes. My opinion is too much time is spent warning the user, and not enough time is given to the hypnotic session. Consequently, there has been no change in my ability to fall asleep. I feel cheated.

I've suffered from insomnia for about ten years now, although I've always been a light sleeper. My insomnia problem is specific: I can usually fall asleep all right, but I'll frequently wake up unable to get back to sleep after only three or four hours, which hurts my job performance the next day.
I tried this CD as a means to wean myself from sleeping pills, using it diligently every day for about six weeks. Then I used it for an additional two or three times a week for about a month after that. It didn't do much to keep me from waking up in the middle of the night, although sometimes I would fall asleep while using it just because it was relaxing to listen to and I was sleep deprived. Still, based on other reviews on this page, the CD did help some people, so I'm not trying to be vindictive, but if it didn't work for me, there are probably other people it won't work for as well. I had better success with No More Sleepless Nights by Peter Hauri and Shirly Linde.

A Kid's Review

Everything about this self-hypnosis cd by Ms. Decker is fantastic--the quality of the recording, the beauty and efficacy of her voice, the austerity of the induction and instructions. The thing is, I am not yet sure if the purpose of this cd is fully achieved by me after about 20 days of regular use, but its meditation-enhancing quality, focus on the breath and its mindfulness quotient is superb. I love this and the others in this series by Ms. Decker.

Not as advertised.,

This product does not help you go to sleep. It's a generic relaxation exercise that specifically tells you not to go to sleep while listening and wakes you up. Wasted Money.

Worked For Me!,

I used this CD and had what a friend calls a "good hypnotic experience". There is a short disclaimer, which I skipped after hearing it twice, then Ms. Decker starts talking in a soft and rhythmic voice. Once she starts talking I just sort of "zone out" and next thing you know I am turning off the CD and the session is over. There is no music on this CD which I like because on most CD's of this nature I find the music bothers me. I use this CD during the day as Ms Decker suggests as opposed to using it at bed time but I suppose this is a personal choice and may work better for some people if used at bedtime. I do recommend that you read the book that comes with the CD. It tells you how to use the CD to get the most from it and how to use it in conjunction with her other CD's. This was important for me because I own and use 2 more of Ms. Decker's CD's, Stress Reduction and Self-Confidence. The book also gives you a really good crash course in hypnosis. The stress CD I will probably use forever, or at least until this global financial crises is over, and I've used the Self-Confidence with great results. For me, these CD's are worth the small investment I have in them.

I am sleeping deeply!,

I have always had trouble falling asleep, after only a week with this CD, no more!! Years of having babies waking me up at night made me a light sleeper on top of it. This CD worked on me immediately -- not instantly, I did a better job of sleeping the first night, better the next, etc. You can listen to it before bed, you just need to stay awake during the 20 minutes (which is less time than it used to take me to fall asleep, so no loss there). It is also helping me fall back asleep when I wake. When i listen to the CD during the day, I am very energized after the CD. It provides both suggestions ("if you are listening during the day, you will feel ..., if you are listening before bed, you will feel ....).My husband did not like it at all the first night, but he had been expecting a relaxing lull you to sleep voice. The second night, after I explained the hypnosis approach, he liked it (he has no problems sleeping though). Yes there is a slight accent that I didn't notice at first, it pops up only a couple of times during the 20 minutes, but I don't think it is northern as another reviewer mentioned, I've lived in the northeast but it reminds me of a friend from Ohio. Other than those 2 - 3 times, it is very monotone and I like it b/c it stays in my head as needed.

This is a "no Bull" CD. There is no brackground music to distract you,
and it gets right to the point - helping you to SLEEP. This is the best CD for helping insomnia that I have yet found. It even offers some pointers on hypnosis that I had never heard before. Very good CD!!! |
