5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to Hypnotism, May 22, 1998
This review is from: The Hypnotic World of Paul McKenna (Paperback)
A very good place to start for people who know very little or nothing about Hypnotism. The book gives a brief history, from the days of Franz Mesmer (1734-1815) who invented 'Mesmerism' to modern Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The book presents an unbiased overview of many of the different theories and schools on the subject of trance inducement, including; Sports Hypnosis, Stress Control, Self Hypnosis and even the controversial Past-Life Regression. At one point in the book the reader is shown the actual script for a hypnotic induction and has the technique explained one step at a time.

The author, Paul McKenna, is a former radio D.J. in England who first became interested in hypnotism while interviewing an expert in the field on his radio show. Then over the next few years after reading up on the subject and taking some classes Mr McKenna developed his own stage hypnosis show. Later he hosted his own television show on the BBC. Mr McKenna has a friendly and readable style that makes a very complex and controversial subject easy to understand.
