Not as helpful as I would have hoped,

This review is from: Hypoglycemia: The Disease Your (Paperback)
As I began this book I had hoped to get information about the causes, treatments and dietary advice for someone diagnosed with hypoglycemia. I was disappointed that this was not the information I felt the book delivered. The book failed the reader in explaining hypoglycemia. It provided alot of antecdotal evidence to support its claims. In addition much of its advice was undoable by the average person - it included suggestions to use only full spectrum light, avoid the use of microwave ovens, eat only fertile eggs and drink only raw milk. I am eager to control my hypoglycemia but couldn't help but wonder at the validity of much of this advice.

Someone FINALLY Understands !,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hypoglycemia: The Disease Your (Paperback)
Hypoglycemia is very misunderstood amongst the medical community. It is just not taken as seriously as perhaps it should be. I think hundreds of people are misdiagnosed, and reading a book like this is exactly what the doctors and those who suffer from this need.I have been suffering from hypoglycemia for as long as I can remember -- going through changes and visiting doctors. I have been treated for nearly everything stated in the book at one time or another. Now, that *I* understand and have shared this book with my doctor, I am FINALLY on my way to a better, more functional life.

Exellent Book!,

There seems to be some disagreement in the reviews of the validity of this book. The foundation of this great book is the over "sugarization" of the American diet that is truly causing havoc to American health. I understand her positions on free range chickens, full spectrum light etc to get the most healthful food product. IMHO that is just a bit beyond the average busy person's time/tolerance for food shopping and preparation. The greatest value by far of this book is it's exposure of hypoglycemia as a serious health problem and its excellent breakdown of how to properly interpret the results of the glucose tolerance test. The disorder of hypoglycemia goes beyond "just having low sugar". Hypoglycemia ties to and creates a very large number of health and personality problems and this book documents that fact exceedingly well. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is overweight, diabetic (or going there),is depressed, has anxiety attacks, or just plain intersted in understanding why low carb is so popular and why it works.

Totally non-evidenced based,
By
This review is from: Hypoglycemia (Paperback)
I am a physician, recently diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia myself. I read this book at the local bookstore, hoping to find a good book on hypoglycemia. Although the book starts off well, it then leads to non-evidenced based recommendations that go as far as recommending to eliminate dairy products from your diet altogether, and recommending mega doses of many vitamins and supplements. I am a big fan of integrative medicine, but please, as with any medical advice, there needs to be more evidence to back up these claims that can lead to potential health problems (especially with the mega doses of vitamins). I do not recommend this book, and in fact find it irresponsible to title it "The Classic Healthcare Handbook, " when there is little or no evidence behind many of the "healthcare" recommendations they make.

This book is for everyone!,

I love this book! If you suffer from hypoglycemia and/or have a weight problem, read this book. Actually, it should be read by everyone. I'm trying the Vim and Vigor diet that is suggested in the book and I already feel different. I don't feel like I'm in a fog or sluggish. Getting your blood sugar level makes a big difference and can help everyone. It is true that there is a lot of resistance by doctors to believe in this condition and I have had the displeasure of meeting a few of them. I wish all doctors would read this book.

BEST Healthbook EVER Written !,
This review is from: Hypoglycemia (Paperback)
If you are SERIOUSLY interested in living a longer, healthier, more productive & happier life [or if you know someone else who would be] - read this book ASAP!Don't let the title fool you. This book is not just for hypoglycemics. It is for anyone that has ANY health problem, physical & neurological. If you are hypoglycemic / suspect you might be, "The Classic Healthcare Handbook" will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know to diagnose & treat this often undiagnosed, insidious health problem that many "experts" says doesn't exist! I can tell you that it is indeed very real, and it can make your life a "living hell". "Hypoglycemia" gives the most compelling reasons yet why we need to eat truly healthy foods (including animal-based & derived protein) and why we need to eliminate ALL of the "supermarket scams" & "fast-food frauds" from our diets if we are to ever be truly free of the diseases that plague our society. The author (Jeraldine Saunders) tells of her real-life tragedy that took her daughter's life at a very early age due to medical ignorance & arrogance. This paves the way for describing the dibilitating effects of hypoglycemia - and how it affects nearly 50% of all Americans of their physical & mental health, thus robbing them of the joy of living. Being a hypoglycemic & the owner of a "true" vitamin / nutrition store, I can honestly say this book has already made a huge impact on my life - and I know it will on yours too! If you have a child that has ADD / ADHD, you will almost certainly find "the cause & the cure" in this excpetional work. You may want to buy several copies of this life-changing book to give to family, friends, neighbors, etc. It may just save their lives.

Best Overview,
By
This review is from: Hypoglycemia (Paperback)
Of all the research I have done on blood sugar and hypoglycemia over the past year, I was convinced that there wasn't anything new that yet another book on hypoglycemia could say. I was wrong! I found this book to be quite amazing and the most complete that I have read so far. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any good books out there explaining blood sugar regulation as a whole, only the two extremes... hypoglycemia and diabetes.I am a strong believer in naturopathic medicine and the use of complimentary medicine. So this book may have things that the typical main stream community doesn't believe in (hypoglycemia itself, but also the benefits of raw milk, etc). This is a book that gives a general overview of all things related to hypoglycemia, the history, what it is, what it means, management, etc. Even recipes. For good general purpose recipes, use "500 low-carb recipes" by Dana Carpender. It has become my cookbook bible. But the recipes in this book offer a bit of variety that one might not normally find in the average low-carb cookbook. Variety is always a good thing in a diet that can feel restricted at times! However, as previously stated in another post, be careful about the diet restrictions and supplement recommendations. Hypoglycemia can have devastating effects that are highly personalized and as this book stresses, every individual has their own special nutritional needs. Seek a good nutritionist or even a naturopath (if you feel comfortable with that) who is trained extensively in both nutrition and giving medical care. Don't ever take a book or (even your doctor/nutritionist's) words as ultimate truth, always always research all sides of an recommendation.

This book was extremely helpful in explaining exactly what hypoglycemics should eat. I also found myself paralleled in many real life stories throughout, behaviors that I thought were emotional problems and actually could have been hypoglycemia. A must read for anyone moody or irritable if you don't know why!!

Trying to Understand and Planning Accordingly!,

This review is from: Hypoglycemia (Paperback)
I bought this book in hopes of being able to read it through with the teenage boy (14) that had recently been diagnosed with Hypoglycemia. The sheer panic that set in when he went into a seizure initially from this disease scared all of us. I wanted to be able to sit down with Albert and have this be a book that would both answer some questions and additionally invoke questions to be answered.I initially had Albert read this on his own...he was completely lost, as I would have been at 14 years of age. This was something that I should have and would suggest to parents/friends in the future, to make sure they do...read it first. Initially it seemed that there was alot of life changing activites that evolved surrounding this event. Gradually, however, it turned into something that was workable and livable with an extremly active 14 year old. I would recommend this book to those who wish to get a quick education on hypoglycemia.

I almost didn't buy this book due to the physician that reviewed this previously. Im writing this review to encourage anyone thinking about buying this book to please over look the negative reviews. I have yet to come across any information that has been more informative on hypoglycemia then the information in this book. For those of us with common sense that do not need the senseless brainwashing from medical professionals whom have learned everything they know from corporate drug companies, this book is exactly that, common sense spelled out. Stress and poor diet equals disease. I don't know why its so hard for us to accept this fact. The only part about the book I was not impressed with was the recipes. We have this problem because of sugar and poor food quality and yet the recipes include fruit sugar and do not stress the importance of raw foods. I recommend Dr. Mercola's no grain diet book along with a raw foods book. I just bought Superfoods: The Food and Medicine of the Future. Everyone should also see the movie food matters. You can watch it straight off Netflix streaming. This book was also great in that it talked about the connection of low blood sugar and your mood/ mental state. Very informative.
