From Library Journal
Jaworski, who has a child with hypoplastic left-heart syndrome, has written this handbook for the parents of children with this condition, which is congenital and can manifest itself differently in each child. (The label actually covers a variety of defects.) The information she has pulled together is presented in understandable language so that parents and other interested readers won't have to experience the frustrations she did when her son was initially diagnosed. Though the sections on anatomy and anatomical defects might have been placed at the beginning rather than in the middle to avoid interrupting the flow of the book, Jaworski succeeds in explaining the basic problem and outlining available options. The information on the support group Baby Hearts is helpful, as is advice on what to expect from physicians and other healthcare providers. A list of references offers more detailed information. Most appropriate to personal collections, this book will also be a useful addition to consumer health/patient education collections, especially those that serve populations where this condition is treated.?Mary J.
